Today marks the beginning of Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Eating disorders affect roughly 28.8 million Americans at some point in their life times. They also have the second highest mortality rate of mental health disorders, and are second only to opioid use disorders.

To help celebrate National Women In Science Day this month, we would like to acknowledge the first female neurosurgeon in the United States, Dr. Dorothy Klenke Nash. Specifically, for her advocacy for public access to mental health resources. She also called for the destigmatization of mental illnesses and helped found the Mental Health Society of Allegheny County. Additionally, she also served as an active member of the Pittsburgh Neuropsychiatric Society.

We applaud the work of Black in Neuro to diversify the future of neuroscience and empower Black representation in neuroscience fields! The #blackinneuro movement all started with a wish for Angeline Dukes to see a #blackinneuroweek amongst the other celebrations of Black scholars at the time. What started as a simple Tweet in 2020, became a worldwide organization seeking to celebrate, recognize and develop future Black scholars in neuroscience.

Check out our exciting case report that was just published! Central post-stroke pain was treated through dual stimulation of the motor cortex and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Bayesian optimization was used to personalize the treatment, finding the best stimulation parameters to eliminate the patient's pain.
