‘a sustainable, thriving community cannot exist without room for random, organic interactions’ and ‘Communities should strive for openness, a continuous ability to welcome visitors and potential new members’ (Casey Plett, On Community)
Meeting friends around herbs at the community garden is one of the most precious harvests. Just turning up knowing they will be there makes our hearts bloom.
Cowslip
Last night I heard
you passed away
you lost cancer won
I have been thinking
about you lately
my community angel
The first time we met
you on your bike
simply elegant
Smiling
helped me grew
communities
Attentive listening
strength resilience
trust in people
You showed me
a painting by your granny
cowslip
Gentle calm for restless hearts
a bloom of grace in meadow air
You learnt from her
to find beauty
in simple things
This morning
I ordered some cowslip
for the community shrine
Then went for a walk
searching for cowslip
I saw an angel
Making her way
among the primroses
in the riverbank
Daffodils
narcissus
magnolias
Cherry blossoms
but cowslip
nowhere to be seen
Its absence
this spring
marks yours
What is rubbish? we recycle, up cycle, see value where others see waste. We look at things with a curious eye until they find their place at the heart of the community garden.
