CUT the FUSS. /// research project on timber thinning.
A process in forestry, in which part of a forests trees are removed. In production forests, the trees preferred for timber (straight, no forks) are selected to grow further. Then the rest of the forest is cut down. By opening up the canopy the timber trees get more resources and grow faster, fattening them for timber production. In „renaturation“, thinning is used to attain a desired scenario of biodiversity, opening up the forest canopy makes space for other plant species to grow, temporarily increasing layering in the forest.
Forests exposed to thinning cannot form a cohesive canopy and are thus particularly vulnerable to both storms and droughts. It is considered standard practice in modern western forestry.

While hollowing out this clay bust I had to cut of the head, I liked the way it looked so I left it off.
