Every year on October 24, people around the world unite for the International Day of Climate Action. This global event raises awareness and inspires meaningful action to address climate change, protect the planet, and create a sustainable future.
In mid-2023, the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens, awarded me the great honor to design and fabricate a site-specific exhibit that would address climate change and its impact on deforestation and habitat loss, with a focus on the world's tropical rainforests. This ambitious project would not have been possible without the amazing help and dedicated hard work of talented artists: Andres Canas, Carlos Rojas Jara, Alan Omar Soto, David Magnusson and Andrew Roth (Sound Design).
After two years in the making, “Under the Canopy", now open at the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens, is an immersive, multi-sensory, walk-through experience that highlights the impact and urgency of climate change. As an artistic interpretation of a tropical rainforest, the installation reflects both the wonderment and uncertainty of the future.
