After the dismantling of the refugee camp “The Jungle” in Calais in 2016, and following the publication of my book Ville de Calais, my focus on the situation there gradually faded. I continued to visit Calais out of curiosity, but without the intention of documenting it photographically.
Until yesterday.
Yesterday, I visited the camp near Dunkirk. There, I was confronted head-on with reality. Nothing has changed. Migrants still live in improvised shelters with out any basic facilities . The painful realization set in that this will most likely still be the case ten years from now.
In Ville de Calais, I document only a small fragment of a crisis that has been unfolding for decades around the ports of northern France. Yesterday made it clear to me that this story is far from over. Over the coming years, I must continue this work — to reveal this humanitarian disgrace in its full, raw magnitude.

Op zaterdag 13 september is mijn film Territorium eenmalig te zien op een bijzondere locatie: een lege kalverstal in Speuld. Dit dorpje is niet toevallig gekozen; een groot deel van de film is hier opgenomen.
Speuld – een dorp met een groot aantal kalverhouders, omringd door de prachtige Veluwse bossen – staat hierdoor centraal in het stikstofdebat. In Territorium komen de verschillende stemmen uit dit debat aan het woord.
De vertoning duurt 20 minuten en zal doorlopend getoond worden.
Naast deze unieke vertoning is Territorium tot en met 21 september te zien in de Rabozaal van het Boijmans Depot in Rotterdam
In china houden ze van fotograferen!! Gisteren kwamen we een themapark tegen die helemaal was ingericht om de nostalgie groots te vieren.
