Sunset in Izu, Japan “I am the land I walk on. I am the water I consume. I am the collective of my ancestors and the cosmos...l am the corn seed I feed upon, and just like that seed l must adventure into the darkness to grow. “ - @jillianwaterman <——Incredible Anishnaabe artist I read this quote from her about a dress she made out of Bear Island flint corn at an exhibit at the @themuseumdetroit and it stuck.🫶🏽

Fujisan, No. 01 I took this series when I was pregnant with Miles, trying to find my identity as a soon to be mom of two. Hikes like these to beautiful views and playing Minecraft Dungeons(idk either🥴)to distract my mind from the not knowingness of what was to come as a family together, helped at the time.

Hagachizaki-en, Izu Peninsula. Japanese Macque studying me in this moment, him patient…me patient…just waiting for each other to give permission to move closer. Remembering the taste of salt in air and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach right behind him, and this moment of connection with this wild one. 🤎

The Izu Peninsula, one of John and my favorite places in Japan. Off the beaten path, not crowded besides a handful of locals. They aren’t welcoming nor not welcoming, but that’s not the reason why you come. Izu sometimes gives you deja vu views of Thailand or Big Sur and the coasts of Northern California. It’s so beautiful sometimes and free from all the modern distractions you just slow down. You don’t want to be on your phone you just want to absorb all the beauty into your bones so you don’t forget it. On this day in Shimoda, Finn and I woke up really early knowing we were going to drive back to our house in Sobüdai. We spent the morning exploring and I saw a Yukimi-doro or a stone lantern out in the middle of the water. The morning turned into a me chasing the light before it got too bright and figuring out a good angle. Finn asked me to walk up these stairs overgrown with plants and I obliged. The view at the top is the film portrait I captured. Maybe you too can feel how much of a dream it can feel like when you’re there… ❤️ We took the ferry to Dogashima to see the monkeys, that was quite surreal as well.
