South LA has a cute male singleton rottie mix pup, about 6 weeks old, chunky and healthy, eating very well. Very cute. RESCUE ONLY DUE TO AGE. The shelter is not a healthy place for a pup this young. Please share and tag rescues. He needs out asap.

Someone help this gray faced sweetheart. This is SHADOW and she was surrendered to the South LA shelter last week because her owner is homeless. Imagine how scary shelter life is for a new dog who just lost her home and family. SHADOW is as sweet as her snow-kissed face and sheās waiting for someone to give her a loving and stable new life.

My heart is heavy. Onyx was euthanized today only five days after becoming available. She was made rescue only for scared, defensive intake behavior. Her designation as Rescue only was not permitted by the current at risk policy that this department has adopted, but that doesnāt seem to matter at the moment. We will keep fighting but tonight Iām just sad we lost another good one ⦠without her ever having had a fair chance. Itās wrong. And this department will never be trusted if they continue on this path. Rest in peace, sweet girl. Iām so sorry. š
Hey look at this, look! What a cutie! There are so many special and wonderful dogs at the South LA shelter but they all need adopters. So if youāre looking for a new furry friend, adopt from SLA and save a life while youāre at it.

Update: adopted š I donāt really know what to say anymore. This is a video of Sydney, a seven month old puppy at the South LA Shelter. No handling concerns have ever been noted for her from medical intake to numerous out of kennel enrichment by a volunteer and playgroup staff. She has been given a bad behavior note and upgraded to level three today. I would guess that most people who understand dog behavior would look at this video and see what I see⦠A curious friendly but overwhelmed and scared puppy. Why wouldnāt she feel this way in this environment? What I see is a completely appropriate reaction. I donāt have an action item today, but I will have action items coming soon. What is happening right now at South LA cannot stand. Sydney #A2270827 7mo female, 32lbs
Saved by adoption 5/13 šā„ļø I took this video not knowing that her days are numbered. Today was the first time I met this young Shepherd named Wild JILL and she immediately captured and broke my heart at the same time. I had no idea that JILL was euth listed for Thursday morning due to ābehavior concerns.ā I only knew what I sawā¦a scared but gentle and timid dog trying to brave the world and longing to connect with others. JILL is only three years old and came to the SLA shelter just shy of three weeks ago. She quickly landed on the dreaded euthanasia list due to displaying high FAS (fear anxiety stress) in her kennel. When Jill first arrived at the shelter, she was panicky on leash, attempting to chew through it and flailing while on leash. Within two weeks, however, this good girl showed notable improvement ā so much so that shelter staff removed her handling tag as Jill began walking up to her handlers and accepting affection. Jill also showed improvement in playgroup by mingling more every session and approaching handlers for pets. Yesterday, JILL showed interest in playing and, today, had a brief play exchange with another dog in playgroup. Just as the darling is beginning to blossom, she will tragically lose her life unless someone saves her by close of business tomorrow. This dog - who will die due to displaying FAS in her kennel - was incredibly docile when I returned her to her kennel this morning (and I only just met her today). Jill not only allowed me to enter her kennel with her but she sweetly sat and accepted pets and affection. Before I left the shelter this afternoon, I witnessed JILL out with another volunteer. Their exchange was so sweet and tender. JILL wanted nothing more than love and kindness. She offered her paw repeatedly. She leaned her head in pets. She rolled on her back for belly rubs. This canāt be the way it ends for this precious soul who is simply and truly longing for love and understanding. Please, save Wild JILL.

Meet Bertha #A2260791. š Bertha came into South LA Animal Shelter on a personal property hold when her owner was hospitalized. She waited patiently for over a month, but sadly her owner hasnāt recovered and canāt bring her home.
This sweet girl has a face that breaks hearts. Sheās a little timid at first, but sheās made some friends at the shelter and is slowly coming out of her shell. After the life we think sheās had, weād love nothing more than to see her find a loving family or rescue who will give her the care she deserves.
7 years old, 45 pounds (could use a few extra), Gentle with dogs big and small. In need of some serious TLC
Please help us get Bertha seen and saved. Share this gentle soul. š

šRIP sweet Onyx. You deserved so much better šš
ššØLESS THAN 48 HOURS TO LIVE! ONYX NEEDS RESCUE BEFORE THURSDAY 5/14šØš
Onyx is the next one out of time. Sheās about 5 years old, a petite 34 pounds, and was brought in as a stray last week. She was euth-listed and made RESCUE ONLY on her SECOND DAY at the shelter because she was scared and defensive. She was given no time and no chance. She has a few notes about low growling, hiding in her cubby, and having whale eyes. She was also wary of handling when she first came out for playgroup and attempted to bite out of fear while being collared.
But Onyx has been doing better with each outing. She just needed time to acclimate to her new reality. She came out on Sunday with a volunteer before playgroup. She was timid, hesitant to come forward and be leashed, but loved treats and accepted pets once she was out. In playgroup, she was overwhelmed in the yard and spent her time sitting under the cart. She kept to herself and gave sharp corrections to the other dogs.
She came out again yesterday and we saw her personality really start to come out! She came forward and could be leashed right away. She accepted lots of affection in the yard, even rolling over for belly rubs! She got playful when in the yard with just a few other dogs. She seemed much more relaxed.
None of her progress matters though š
Onyx dies on THURSDAY 5/14 anytime after 8AM. She is RESCUE ONLY. We havenāt known her very long, but sheās made so much progress, so we hope a responsible rescue is willing to give her a chance. Please help us get her to safety before itās too late. Sheās waiting at South LA Shelter.

šš½Please DONATE for the training #SouthLASurvivor ENDO needs so that he and his dad, a US Navy Veteran who is unhoused, can stay TOGETHERš
When 2 year old Endo was going to be euthanized at the South LA shelter last month, soooooo many rallied to REUNITE them, and on his own, Endoās dad said, āNot my son!ā
But he didnāt know that an entire community is in his corner!
However, Endoās initial temperament toward strangers is a challenge that needs to be managed in order to be housed together. So for board and train, we reached out to our friends @humbleK9 to be a part of Endoās village! And our friends @k9kismet are helping to make this possible by accepting donations to fund Endoās training through their Amigos Program.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PROVIDE AT LEAST 4 WEEKS OF TRAINING.
The K9 Kismet Amigos Program helps keep families together by providing support with medical care and training for pets whose owners are going through a hard chapter⦠because we believe no one should ever have to give up their best friend.
Fully funded by private donors and sponsors, the Amigos Program is powered by a community that understands something simple and deeply human⦠sometimes we all just need a friend in our corner.
Endo and his dad are committed. Theyāre showing up for each other, and theyāre ready to do the work with @mr.johnflores ⦠and weāre ready to stand with them and help make it happen. Will you stand with us?

Update: Rescued š« BLUEBERRY | #A2269341 | RESCUE NEEDED NOW
She was picked up by Animal Control in late April from an unsafe situation. We were just getting to know her when everything changed.
Last night, in her kennel at South LA Shelter, Blueberry gave birth to one chunky little boy. Weāre calling him Bobaš¾
Sheād been in playgroups all week ā sweet, social, happy. On Wednesday, something shifted ā she started acting a little protective of her BFF, the dog she came in with. We didnāt know why. Now we do. That dog got adopted. Blueberry stayed. And she was carrying this whole secret the entire time.
Sheās 2 years old, 60 lbs, and somehow still the friendliest girl in the building. Her puppy Boba is perfect. And they cannot stay here.
A loud, bright shelter is no place for a newborn. Blueberry and Boba need out before they get sick.
ā ļø NOT eligible for public adoption or foster ā puppy is too young. RESCUE GROUPS ONLY.

Update: RescuedšLemon #A2268446 is a 2-year-old, 22-beauty with the gentlest soul and the kindest little temperament. She came into the shelter with a catastrophic injury to her right eye, and thankfully the shelter veterinary team was able to remove it and get her all healed up š
Now sheās ready for the part she really deserves: a forever family.
Lemon is wonderful with people, lovely with other dogs, and has such a soft, easy presence about her. Sheās the kind of dog who quietly melts into your heart. Sweet, calm, affectionate, and resilient beyond words.
She may only have one eye now, but sheās looking toward the future with so much love left to give āØ

These stories never stop and Caraās story deserves to be told because after being adopted as a puppy in 2022, she was surrendered 10 days ago andā¦(you guessed it) she is URGENT and SCHEDULED for EUTHANASIA MON 5/11.šØ #A2062970
Feel the need to point out that the negative notes about her ābehavior declineā began the DAY SHE ARRIVED. We have forgotten how to shelter dogs⦠this is no longer about safety.
Her owners kept her outside and said she āprotected the home.ā They said she lived with another small dog and mentioned that she attacked the dog but also that she was playful and relaxed.
What we have seen in the shelter: a dog with the nicest body language. She plays with every dog in playgroup, she tested well with small dogs, she loves every person she meets. It just doesnāt add up.
None of us have seen the fear, anxiety, stress or stiff kennel presence noted as a reason for euthanasia. Cara is a nice dog. Please share so she can land in good hands. šš¼
