Today we subscribed to @hellosimplydraw . Y’all know I’m not a big fan of screens so finding ways to integrate them through purpose is hard but this is one of those apps!! She begged us to start learning how to draw and I almost went to YT but glad this app was available!! She did spend a few hours on this app but it felt good knowing that instead of sitting there binge watching she was enhancing her creative skills.
And I might just be a bit biased but being that she’s only 6, her work is impressive. Excited to see how she grows in her creativity bc she’s all for it. She might just be the one who helps continue the creative legacy.

Today I did something really special – I sat down with my 7-year-old son and followed a simple drawing app tutorial together.
It might sound small, but for me it felt big.
When I was at school in the Soviet system, learning how to draw well wasn’t really an option in an ordinary school. If you wanted proper art education, you had to attend a separate art school. I always wanted to learn, but it just wasn’t part of my path.
That’s why I’ve always admired how art is taught here in England. My elder daughter did A Level in Art, and the standard they teach in an ordinary secondary school still amazes me. The creativity, the depth, the skill, the encouragement — it’s incredible. Art isn’t reserved for a select few; it’s nurtured, explored, and taken seriously.
Now my 7-year-old son is starting to show a real interest in drawing. And instead of just standing on the sidelines, I’m learning with him. We’re following simple tutorials, laughing at our imperfect lines, comparing our slightly wonky creations, and celebrating the little improvements each time.
What made it special wasn’t the drawing itself. It was the feeling of closing a circle.
Honestly, it feels like I’m healing my inner child. The little girl who once wished she could learn to draw is finally getting her chance — sitting next to her son, pencil in hand.
No pressure. No grades. Just curiosity, courage, and shared joy.
