"Featuring works by Lisa Hirmer, Laura Demers, Hala Alsalman, and Katherine Takpannie, the exhibition explores the nature of artificial clouds, the atmosphere shaped by human hubris, the slow transformations, and the minute signs of atmospheric change. Together, the works also question how meteorological precarity manifests through the emission and unfolding of warning signals, while imagining post-disaster worlds where myth and prediction blur, weaving cyclical forms of archaeology."

Quelques semaines se sont écoulées (déjà) depuis l'ouverture de l'exposition 𝘚𝘦 (𝘳𝘦)𝘤𝘶𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘳 | 𝘛𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 de l'artiste Carole Deveau à la Galerie d'art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen !
Voici quelques images de l'exposition que Carole et moi avons imaginée ensemble. Merci à l'équipe de la galerie pour l'invitation, l'appui et l'accueil chaleureux, ainsi qu'à toutes les personnes qui sont venues célébrer le travail de Carole et prendre part au projet. ☔️📡 le projet « Season Creep » de @hellolaurad est inspiré par la divination rudimentaire et les outils de prévision utilisés par l’humain pour mieux saisir la nature.
👀 dans cette installation, des cyanotypes et des objets sculpturaux agissent comme des dispositifs d’enregistrement analogiques des changements atmosphériques, faisant écho aux outils vernaculaires en bois utilisés pour prédire le beau temps et les intempéries ~ ces bâtons météorologiques de fortune ont été dispersés dans une cour d’un logement torontois, tandis que leur patine change avec le temps.
🎙️ dans le dernier épisode du podcast, l’artiste nous parle de cette exposition qui s’intéresse aux cycles, à leur perturbation, et à la manière dont la nature et les êtres vivants sont façonnées par leur environnement.
A bearded seal I photographed during my residency at Reford Gardens / Jardins de Métis last September. The image was developed using a home-made seaweed brew, which you can hear me speak about in the latest episode of @souslafibre (en français). I want to extend my gratitude to its host, Claire-Marine, for her generous and attentive questions, and for letting me speak about my practice at length in a way I've maybe never let myself before. What a gift it is to have this recording as a memory of the residency, captured as it was still unfolding.
Thanks to Ophélie Turgeon, Emmanuelle Taillefer, and Cédric Gascon of the RQUMM, who enthusiastically welcomed me to their workplace and allowed me to take the posthumous portraits of the marine mammals in their storage facilities. Thanks also to the entire team at the Gardens for the warm welcome and this unforgettable experience. I'm optimistic about the experiments that are yet to come.
