It feels weird to post about yourself, but after doing this whole independent studio thing since 2021, I figured it was time to do a brief introduction. Pardon the momentary cringe.
Iâm Michael or Mikey, depending on who you ask. I co-founded and run KUYA alongside my much more talented wife, Janine. My focus is on the creative and production side of things, while hers is making sure our business runs smoothly. Iâd like to think we make a great team.
We started KUYA as a way to break away from everything we didnât like about working for âbigâ agencies. The layers, the inefficiencies, and most importantly, the values (or to some, the lack thereof). We didnât set out to reinvent the wheel - we set out to change how the creative industry works with people.
We knew we wanted to create something that not only respected our clients, but also respected the folks behind the work. Respect for their talent, their points-of-view, and their time. Stuff that easily got lost in the hustle culture most of us were shaped by early in our careers.
When collaborating with clients, we aim to produce brands that are thoughtful, well-crafted, and made with care. We legitimately love what we do and hopefully it shows. Thank you to all the awesome leaders who have trusted us so far.
I can probably go on, but I did say this was supposed to be a âbriefâ introduction. If you know me, I can ramble with the best of em.

We believe moving slow can often be the difference maker for workplace safety, but thanks to VelocityEHSâ suite of tools, safety professionals are now armed with the goods to see potential risks before they even happen.
At the heart of the new brand is Velocity Vision, a versatile visual language that builds upon the familiar oval shape of the VelocityEHS logo to emphasize the clarity their platform provides amongst the chaos of a work site.

True story: I was getting a haircut one day and my fellow Pinoy barber asked if KUYA had any merch. I answered ânoâ and then quickly realized, âwait, why not?!â The easy excuse would be that weâre always too busy doing the âreal work.â Building brands, making ads, and all that creative studio stuff we do. We were spending so much time making cool work for our clients that somewhere along the way, we forgot to make cool stuff for ourselves. That all changed a couple of months ago when we started dabbling in making real, tangible goods. Nice things we could wear and give away to our friends / clients.
Which brings us to today: weâre excited to make our first wave of KUYA Goods available to everyone, so everyone can feel ⨠pogi. From shirts, keychains, hats, or whatever else strikes our fancy.
