Hello Books never knew (still don’t really believe) that books can be “retired from service” but look how the Lansing Public Schools retired that book in 1975!?!? We recently scored a ready-to-serve collection of vintage kids books from a former teacher in the Bangor, MI school system. These books have a lot of life in them (and, yes, on them) now on the shelves at Hello Books.
We got our hands on an early printed copy of the US government’s information regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. We can put it in your hands for $40 (plus $6 media mail shipping). 1953 first edition. Tears in the dust jacket, as pictured.
One of the joys of used books is discovering the life it had before you, like with this 1982 children’s book. Inside the front cover, “Wendy” taped in a newspaper article about “Oliver,” a cat in Portage, MI. And (judging from the handwriting), she also included two photos of “Tiger,” who she says was her “special visitor for 11 years.” 😭 What an extra-special treasure. For sale at Hello Books, but only if you also have an orange cat whose story you can add to the book, too. 🐾
Spotlighting a few authors born on this day whose books we have in stock right now! (Sadly, quite a few we didn’t… no Kermit the Frog/Muppets books right now? Nor Depeche Mode books?) And just a reminder, we DO offer cash/trade on used books… if you have any Muppets or Depeche Mode. (Eh, Janice would just keep them.)
It’s #IndependentBookstoreDay, which also kicks off the fourth annual #MIBookHop! In what’s becoming an annual event, Joe spent the morning reading to the children of the South Haven Play School — this year, choosing Marilyn Sadler’s “It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny.” Such smart audience participation from the kids! Thank you, Sondra and preschoolers! 🐇🐇🐇
Make 2026 the year you keep a diary. Now in stock, these beautiful Made in Brazil notebooks. We have vintage and collectible notebooks, too. Diary-keeping has been going on for as long as — well, for a very long time. Should you need instruction on how various folk have diary-kept in the past, we have a stack of used books showing you how (or how NOT, depending on your tastes) to keep a diary.
It’s #CyberMonday, and we’ve got a webshop! It is full of unique and wonderful books — first editions, signed copies, out-of-print gems, and more. You pick the shipping option — we send out. Unless you want to pickup at our storefront located in South Haven, Michigan / hellobooksmi.com webstore located wherever wifi signals are found.
Black Friday? No, it’s a BLACK CELEBRATION this Friday. Words are very unnecessary… except these words: music books are 15% off today. (Everything counts in large amounts.)
