It's still crazy to think that a 60second video at home would result in me being in every BONDS outlet in Australia 😱 But such is the life of a commercial model when the audition hits the mark 🎯
One thing I love about #modeling, whether it's commercial, fashion, or fine-art, is that we get to wear the work of other artists. Directors, designers, HMUA's... we are their blank canvas, on which they build and make visceral their artistic vision. The audition process reflects this!
I record my selftapes with my phone on a tripod and 2 x $30 key lights. As much as I would love fancy droneshots, in 8K res filmed on-location, this is NOT what producers and casting directors are looking for!
Instead, be the demo tape! Be present. Be authentic. Choose your vibe and send it!! You'll still be rejected more than you submit for, but when you do get booked (and you will, I promise), it will be for a role that suits you perfectly 🎸🥁🤘

The Contrabass Balalaika 🎶
At 29 I was afraid that I was getting old, turning 30. After a trip to Miami Springbreak with Disneyland en route, I reached the epiphany that you only get old when you start thinking you're too old. As such, I set upon finding a new hobby to keep life interesting. And boy did I find one.
Through a violinist friend, I was introduced to Sydney Balalaika Orchestra, an internationally acclaimed orchestra of pro-am musicians with 5 album recordings, all of which is run by the passion of its not-for-profit members. While I started on the domra, I soon took the helm of contrabass under the guidance of a wonderful man, Bruce Barker, who unfortunately is no longer with us.
Long story short, I went from being bass-clef illiterate then, to somewhat less bass-clef illiterate now, but with a world of adventures and fun memories in between 🎶💕🌏 I can now say I've played on stage with a 23 piece orchestra, at the consulate's office with a trio, weddings with a quintet, and even toured Siberian Russia, riding the #transsiberianrailway, appearing on international TV news... with my voice dubbed!!
I'll be posting some rehearsal and performance footage shortly, but before then please take a moment to admire the beauty and craftsmanship of this 50+ year old instrument... and pray that I make it sound half as good as it looks at our gig tomorrow in Putty NSW 😅😅😅

An acoustic string instrument from the Russian/Slavic region, the balalaika here is in the contrabass register 🎶 Despite its unusual shape, it's easy to pick up for existing bass players because it's 3 strings are tuned to the standard E-A-D 🌠

Birthday weekend was festival-tier with an outdoor concert the day before, midnight countdown while in the line to the club, family BBQ with the usual 5 of us who share the same birthday week, and a little birthday dinner at @thegrounds with the fanciest birthday cake I've ever witnessed 🤩
I'm still between life chapters and am trying to balance keeping informed of the world but not so much that I crash out from it's horrors. I promise I'll update you all over the rest of Summer as there have still been some fun projects I'd like to share with you! 🌠

This year's City2Surf came right in the middle of a shadow chapter, so I was delighted at my time of 1hr 25mins 38sec keeping me comfortably in the runner's zone.
Burnout is real and it sucks. CPTSD is real and it really sucks. But the baggage you carry only weighs as much as you choose it to, and the way forward is through, not around 🕊️

Hoka Half Marathon with @audible_au ! 🏃♂️📖🔊
My 4th half mara and 1st as a sponsored athlete 💪 Put together by @maverick_experiences , we completed the 21km run with speaker-mounted backpacks broadcasting audiobooks throughout. A challenging addon but the crowd loved it and we all kept eachother going... those boomboxes were very real! 🏋️♂️
Special shoutout to @jono.runs whose TikTok video of us racked up over 2 million views... the comments had me rolling 🤣
Lastly, this was a memorable run for me because with this gig I am retiring from promotional BA work 🙏 To the friends I've made along the way, I wish you good campaigns, smooth activations, and minimal reports for the rest of your time in the industry.
