Whether it’s an upcoming performance, social setting, or conversation you’re about to have - we all know the uncomfortable feelings stress can bring. Stress makes our heart rate increase, and we might experience jitteriness, butterflies, and some dread about the situation. But what if you could flip the script? There’s a psychological trick called anxiety reappraisal that reframes stress as excitement and readiness. This simple tool allows us to quickly step into a different frame of mind, one that welcomes opportunities and positive feelings, rather than a focus on what could go wrong. It’s often when we’re stressed and busy, and when we feel like we don’t have enough time, that slowing down and taking a moment for ourselves becomes most valuable. During a stressful day, it can be helpful to find moments of calm and stillness in activities you’re already going to do - like taking a grounding breath while you drive, eat, drink, shower or walk. Our meditations in Dala help you find small pockets of time during the day to pause and anchor your attention to the here and now. If you’re short on time this week, try our eating meditation during your next meal or our drinking meditation. Or if you have a little more time and would like some fresh air, try out our walking meditation. Try Dala for free. Available on the App Store & Google Play

Creating habits that stick can be challenging. We’ve all been there - we feel that initial surge of excitement and motivation to start a new habit, whether it’s to move more, meditate, journal, read, or eat healthier. But days later, life gets in the way, and our motivation fades, or we’ve forgotten the goals we had set for ourselves. If you’re looking for a more sustainable approach to achieving your goals, habit stacking might be the key to finally making those desired changes stick. To get started, list your current daily habits. Choose one new behavior you want to build, then use the formula to connect them. It’s helpful to start small and choose one or two habits to build. Try this formula: After/before I [existing habit], I will [new habit]. What habit will you stack today? Let me know in the comments! Name it to Tame it - a Learning from Dala’s resource library. When we put language to how we’re feeling it can promote helpful strategies such as - processing context, seeing the situation from a different perspective, and problem solving (Vine, Bernstein & Nolen-Hoeksema, 2018). The more aware we are of our emotions, the more likely we are to figure out how to best regulate them. Dala’s Daily Reflection and What’s on Your Mind features are here to support you to name it to tame it. Dala is available for free on the App Store and Google Play
