Contrary to what you might suppose, Greene’s favourite film was not Dances with Wolves, but a film closer to home called Clear Cut. There he teamed up with his dear friend, actor Michael Hogan, who today remembers his work with Greene over that six-week period shooting north of Thunder Bay, Ont. with enormous affection. “Graham was absolutely amazing. You wonder whether he’s a spirit or a human being in the movie. He’s just so totally original and magical, a natural.”

THIS WEEK AT CARBON ARC!
WEDNESDAY is National Canadian Film Day and Hellifax Horror is helping us celebrate with a 35th Anniversary screening of Ryszard Bugajski’s CLEARCUT, starring the late, great Graham Greene, at 6:30 PM. There will be a panel discussion following the film and all tickets are PWYC!
THURSDAY it’s your last chance to catch Gabriel Mascaro’s beautiful Brazilian sci-fi parable about society’s relationship with the elderly, THE BLUE TRAIL.
FRIDAY is our final screening of Hong Sangsoo’s WHAT DOES THAT NATURE SAY TO YOU. The new wonderfully gentle comedy from the great Korean auteur championed by our programmers Joseph and Laurie.
SATURDAY at 5:45 PM, we are opening Simón Mesa Soto’s erratic misfit comedy A POET, and at 8:30 PM, we are concluding this month’s Céline Sciamma Retrospective with her quiet and tender masterpiece, PETITE MAMAN.
SUNDAY is a double whammy. Catch Harry Lighton’s breakout debut dom-com PILLION at 5:30 PM and after, come for our 4/20 Holiday Special; Gregg Araki’s cult classic stoney comedy SMILEY FACE. Featuring a tour-de-force performance from Anna Faris, this movie was the only stoner comedy to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival!
As usual, tickets are available on the Carbon Arc website now. See you at the movies!
