This past Sunday I got to close Chicago at Cranford High School. This was one of the most ambitious designs that I have ever worked on with 33 cast microphones that needed frequency recalibration and mute coordination on TheatreMix with over 90 cues in my cue stack. The most rewarding part about this project was being able to hand my design off to a student to fully board operate the DCA channel mix volume levels during the show runs. I got to work with very bright students who picked up on my coaching and the technology very quickly and felt confident enough to take accountability of their role. I feel as if I was able to meet my goal of giving the students a baseline introduction of what other designers and technicians in our industry do. This experience has absolutely inspired me to find more opportunities to coach and teach others what I get to do in the world of theater sound design.
