On Tuesday evening 17 February Helicopter will organize a finissage for the Bas Zoontjens collages exhibition
With musical performances by Decimus and Mik Quantius and a backyard installation by Samantha Rees and Manuel Padding
Tuesday 17 February, 8-11pm
Helicopter, Ulenpasstraat 55, Den Haag
Really special that we can bring these 2 underground music legends to Den Haag.
No-Neck Blues Band member Pat Murano’s work as Decimus has been a prodigious endeavor to dissolve the ego and conventional notions of form from the creation of music. Murano’s rigorous yet freewheeling cavalcade of bizarre sound events that baffle and beguile in equal measure.
Mik Quantius is a true European underground cult icon.
He speaks in tongues and comes in peace. He’s the krautrock Beefheart.
He’s the esoteric metalhead. He’s a one man voodoo ritual.
He’s Neil from The Young Ones and Garth from Wayne’s World in one.

Helicopter is moving soon, we will leave the current building in March. We are not leaving quietly but with a bang!
On Sunday afternoon 15 February we will show new work by Bas Zoontjens,
whose trippy collages will be a perfect visual scenery for the performance by “a table and a chair”, the new duo of Arvind Ganga and Aart-Jan Schakenbos, who, for the last few years,
have been developing their abstract guitar explorations in this very building.
This will be the first time they go public with these sounds and there could not be a better location for this world premiere. Both Bas and Aart-Jan are new future members of Helicopter, really proud that we are able to give them a platform to show their art.
Samantha Rees will show a selection of her recent sculptures.

Open Call: Future Studio Spaces at Helicopter
Helicopter is relocating — and we’re opening a waiting list. 🌟
Our artist-run collective is preparing to move to a new location in the city center in 2026.
This is a rare opportunity: long-term potential in a vibrant neighborhood with strong community energy. 🍀
The new space will include: 🪐
- Private and shared studios (approx. €250 for 20m², incl. utilities – subject to change)
- A project space for exhibitions, performances, or tryouts – open to members for self-organised programming
- A community of artists shaping the collective together
We’re looking for people excited to be part of this next chapter — not just renting a room, but building something collectively. Please note: Helicopter is a self-organised collective. All members are expected to contribute an average of 2 hours per week to help with shared tasks, programming, or organisational needs.
If this speaks to you, add yourself to our waiting list. When we have more concrete info, we’ll be in touch. 💥

Helicopter at Kaderock Festival
On June 7 Helicopter will show works at Kaderock Festival, at Musicon Den Haag.
This year Kaderock presents a new stage: De Broeikas.
This transparent tent, that functions as a living laboratorium, is the result of a collaboration between The Hague art and music collectives Helicopter, iii @instrumentinventors and New Space Studio @new_space_studio . Sound performances, visual art and technology merge into a ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, in which connecting and improvisation are central.
The theme this year is ‘Work in Progress’, ode to the experiment and the creative process. In De Broeikas it’s not about the perfect end result, but about the creation of art and music in the moment. Artists perform from scaffolds of different heights and invite you to experience the process of creation. Music, movement, sound and image merge in an open working space, in which even the audience is invited to participate.

iii at Kaderock
06-07.06.2025
iii is excited to team up with Helicopter and New Space Studio to launch the first-ever “Broeikas” tent as part of the Kaderock Festival in Musicon (June 6-7).
Representing iii are Riccardo Marogna, Darina Žurková, Lawrence McGuire and Guillermo Martín-Viana. Helicopter artists include Chandana Sarma and Lam Lai, Miiis, Aart-Jan Schakenbos, Arvind Ganga, and Paddy Mans.
Under the theme ‘Work in process’, the focus is not on finished outcomes, but on raw experimentation and artistic process. Artists perform standing on scaffolding of various heights, offering audiences a clear view into the creative process. Broeikas intends to turn art into an experience – for everyone who comes to watch, listen and interact.

Are We There Yet?
Chandana Sarma and Lam Lai collaborate across sound, movement, and space, drawing from nature, somatics, and the body’s deep presence. Together, they create performances that weave landscapes of music and physical storytelling.
Chandana Sarma is an independent performer and facilitator with a background in physical theater, instant composition, and somatics. Her work explores the limits of the body as an instrument, focusing on performance presence and the visual expression of felt sensations. Lam Lai works with sound, music and space, often drawing inspiration from nature, particularly the vast spaciousness of landscapes. Her work immerses the listener in a variety of synth sounds, exploring the intersection between analogue and digital worlds.

Exhilarating Feedback Fiesta
