What began in 2018, when Sarah & Jeff first took on the property with a vision for what Heights House Hotel could become, has grown into something we’re endlessly proud of. As a woman-owned, independently operated hotel, this recognition means a great deal.
Most of all, this is a testament to our incredible team, the heart behind every detail, every stay, and every warm welcome. Their care, creativity, and commitment are what make this place feel so special, day in and day out. This recognition belongs to them just as much as anyone!

We were named one of the best new hotels in the WORLD by @travelandleisure . Their annual “It List” is made up of 100 new hotels around the world. 35 of those are in the United States and only 1 in North Carolina. (Yay, Raleigh!)

Five years ago today, I unlocked these doors with a vision, a lot of hope, and honestly a lot of uncertainty. What I could never have predicted was how much it would change me.
Heights House was built on a clear dream. But the change in my life it’s given me? That’s been written by every guest who walked through our doors, every vendor and partner who believed in what we were building, and every couple who chose this as the place where their forever began. To our wedding couples especially — you didn’t just celebrate here. You became part of our story.
And then there’s my team.
The majority of my staff has been with me for over three years. Let that sink in. In an industry that never stops moving, these people stayed — and because of them, we didn’t just survive, we thrived. They are not employees. They are family. I genuinely cannot picture my life, or Heights House, without them.
Five years is a milestone. But what it really represents is thousands of moments, memories, and people who made this place what it is. I started this with a vision. You all gave it a soul.

“Everything about the hotel was exceptional! We took the train from Charlotte and it was a short walk to hotel. We were greeted with drinks and a history of home tour when we checked in. The staff was always available to help with suggestions of where to eat and what fun things to do. The hotel was beautifully decorated and had several rooms down stairs (library, bar area, living room and dinning room) to enjoy a cocktail with friends, computer work or to read.
In the evenings from 4-8 their bar was open; decadent cocktails and some exquisite charcuterie boards.
As we were leaving they were setting up for a tea, that looked delicious!! Will have to do that next time. We will definitely come back!!” -Hollis, visited January 2026

The moment you step through our front doors, don’t forget to look up. Our original painted skylight has been welcoming guests for generations, framed by historic columns filled with birds, leaves, and even a few squirrels. A little love letter to Oak City, hidden in plain sight.
