I’m so out of the loop 🤣🤣 CLAY is a rich, textured exploration of Australia’s rugged landscapes, brought to life through earthy tones and layered brushstrokes. The composition is centered around warm, natural hues - ochres, browns, reds, pinks and muted greens - that echo the heart of the land itself. The terrain is vast, sprawling across the canvas, where the viewer can feel both the weight and the freedom of the Australian outback. Abstract rocky cliffs and rolling hills are softened by the gentle use of the palette, which invites a sense of connection rather than division. 126 x 100cm acrylic, oil stick and pigment framed in oak.

Working in acrylic and oil stick, Heidi’s practice continues to evolve through experimentation and material exploration. What makes a ‘good’ painting? When do you know it’s finished? Will it even land? I have been experimenting a lot lately mainly with abstract landscapes and the only way I know they are finished is a feeling. A creeping smile instead of a frown and the urge to step back and put my brush down. The process is of course littered with insecure moments and doubts. It was challenging…my vision didn’t match the painting for a while and I almost abandoned it a few times, but I am so happy I pushed through and now it has the most delicious layers 🌼🥀🌸 You can tell by my tired eyes in the first pic 😴 It’s for a special art comp that I need to submit today IYKYK 🫶🏻 also Snow Gum I finished last week.
