I feel invigorated and inspired by the tremendous (and fully international) crew of tireless artists that came together to make this beautiful feature a reality. Diving into the edit now and can’t wait to share this with you all soon!

On Sat Jan 10th, Scandinavia House presents a special screening of FOLKTALES and Q&A with Directors Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady, moderated by Emmy award-winning filmmaker, producer and writer Amir Bar-Lev.
Shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature, FOLKTALES follows the story of teenagers - who on the precipice of adulthood, converge at a traditional folk high school in Arctic Norway. Dropped at the edge of the world, they must rely on only themselves, one another, and a loyal pack of sled dogs as they grow in unexpected directions.

Well, apart from getting a set of bangs that apparently made me unrecognizable for the last few months of 2025 (not pictured here), it was quite a positive year (apply all caveats!). Sadly we said goodbye to Doug’s dad George and also to Gigi who left us way too soon. Don’t take anything for granted ! On a high 🎵 note we celebrated my sister Juliet’s @singergal new Gershwin album. Rico @princericosuavecito of course won entertainer of the year. “Folktales” was my answer to anyone who asked what I’d been up to over the past couple of years and man was it a joy to show. One of the best things about making a new film is not only traveling to share it with strangers but also to reconnect with filmmakers, family and friends who I don’t get to commune with often enough. How great to play my hometown of Detroit where my parents got to see it - and also Chicago where all the cousins and uncles came out to support. I’m so damn lucky. How about that Bring Your Own Dog screening in Brooklyn? Thanks to @sundanceorg for the love launch and to @magnoliapics for making our theatrical dreams come true and for everyone who encourages this unconventional life I’ve chosen. No regrets. Come on, 2026, be a pal and be nice to us all! #bacalar @sffilm@ptownfilm@humanidff@nantucketfilmfestival@criticschoice@chrispenneheg@amnh@rooftopfilms@fifthseason@topicstudiosofficial
🐺 Folktales

📽️ Documentaire
