“In Deep” is a mountain bike and photography documentary that offers an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at @hectorsaura ’s participation in last year’s @crankworx Whistler’s Deep Summer, one of the most prestigious photo contests in our industry. I’m still processing the fact that I won @crankworx ’s Deep Summer in Whistler. It feels surreal. It’s been a fucking long and bumpy road to get to where I am today. The only thing I can say right now is thank you to those who have helped, supported, motivated, and pushed me through this crazy journey that started almost 13 years ago. Especialmente a Vane, por estar desde el primer día y aguantarme a mí y a todas mis movidas (que no es fácil). Mama, Papa, Bul, vosotros también. Deep Summer’s live screening is happening tonight at Whistler’s Olympic Plaza at 7:45 pm. I’m so grateful to have been able to participate and achieve the vision I had in mind. I actually never thought about doing anything like this. It’s one of those things that you don’t think about as it seems so out of your reach, but in late 2020, the idea crossed my mind while I was unpacking my NWD collection after moving to a new home. However, I didn’t even know where to start, so I put it aside. Last summer, I messaged @freeride_ent and invited them to come over to the first Nightmares pop-up in Whistler. One of those days, Aidan from Freeride showed up, so I introduced myself and showed him a screenshot of an iPhone note from December 2020 that read BN X FREERIDE ENT. Long story short, a few weeks later @aidancroskrey connected me with Big D, and he was up for it since the very first email. In October I’d meet him in person for the first time at Power Trip, a heavy metal festival in Indio, California that I went with my brother and dad before going to Rampage. It’s crazy that he also happened to be there with his family. The rest is history and these photos are from last week at our joint pop-up store in Whistler, where we finally launched our first #FreerideNightmares clothing collection and put together an art installation to celebrate the history of freeriding and New World Disorder. This collaboration is my way of paying homage to Derek’s vision and I hope it serves as a tool for the youth to learn the history of where we come from and why they do what they do today. Traveling has been essential to building @bicyclenightmares , and that’s why the new collaboration with @evocsports made a lot of sense to me. Now, every time I pack my bags for a new trip, I appreciate the long journey to get here even more. Thanks again, @holgerfeist and @jandelorean , for trusting my vision and daring to explore the unknown together. I dedicate this project to you, @dain_zaffke , because I wouldn’t be here without you. You were the one who connected the dots with them but, most importantly, believed in me and gave me the first collab opportunity, opening my vision for a new path. Ten years ago, at the age of 20, I had a vision, and I felt the need to create something that would represent and showcase a collective in the best possible way. I’ve had to go through many ups and downs, and sometimes I even thought about giving up, as the creative path can make you feel very lonely. But after seeing the amazing and welcoming response from everybody who’s visited the Whistler store and I’ve had the pleasure to meet, I feel I’m finally headed in the right direction. I just proved to myself that @bicyclenightmares makes sense, and I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved. Thank you to @stephenwilde , @the4color and @tobycowley for accepting to be a part of the photo exhibition. It’s been an honor. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, understands, and supports my vision. I really appreciate that. And thank you to @gibbonswhistler and all the fantastic people behind the scenes who’s helped me make this pop-up store project a reality. You know who you are. Muy pocos saben lo mucho que me ha costado llegar hasta aquí. Agradezco a quienes estáis aquí desde el principio, aquellxs que os unisteis a lo largo del camino, y a lxs que formasteis parte de él. Gracias por apoyarme a seguir, ayudarme a volar, motivarme a creer, y empujarme a soñar. Este logro también es vuestro. De estar perdido con un futuro incierto, a diez años después abrir una tienda física de mi propia marca en el epicentro mundial del Freeride. Nunca lo hubiera imaginado.
