First post in a year, a lot has happened!
I completed my first year of a biology PhD at Berkeley, and now I get to TA and present my work at conferences this fall.
I also got a new #6x45 #mediumformat camera thats perfect for backpacking. This is a #doubleexposure on #rolleiir400 made with the #zenobiadaiichi folder on a recent trip to Mineral King.
Klamath Klunker 2021 - Iron Gate Reservoir - Modoc Ancestral Land
This is a picture that should not exist.
Iron Gate hydroelectric dam is the newest and initial obstruction to migrating fish on the Klamath. The four dams built over the last century have decimated this incredible place; once an abundant source of food for indigenous tribes, these same people were banned from fishing for decades after endemic salmon became nearly extinct in the 1930s. Coupled with destructive logging, the Klamath basin is now bereft of food resources, forcing remaining indigenous communities into unhealthy subsistence on government staples and into deepening poverty.
Remarkably, after decades of fighting to un-dam the Klamath, the Yurok people reached an agreement with the state and the dam owners, PacifiCorp, to begin removal the dams. One year ago, a federal regulatory body determined that PacifiCorp would be fiscally responsible for the removal process, causing the corporation, owned by Warren Buffett, to back out of the agreement. Once again, the value of human life and environmental integrity has been liquidated into profit. Its time to un-dam the Klamath.

Klamath Klunker 2021 - Klamath River Road - Shasta/Modoc Ancestral Land
The first two days of this route were my favorite; long stretches of excellent dirt roads following the powerful Klamath River.
This portion greatly deepend my understanding of the land and water use of the area; there is virtually no public river access, and although the region is fecund with wildlife it seemed at a fraction of its potential, diminished by private cattle ranching. This sentiment would remain with me throughout the trip - how far this land has fallen from what must have been a veritable paradise. Please use our water wisely this summer!

Klamath Klunker - Westport Beaches - Coast Yuki Ancestral Land
For 2 weeks Charlotte and I rode 700mi from Klamath Falls, OR, back home to the SF Bay Area. I shot 14 rolls on a #rollei35se, which is an amazing bike touring camera! Of the not blurry photos I captured, I’ll be posting many of them here, and you can catch some of my favorites from the trip in the next issue of @lowpressurezine !!
I hope these photos will inspire adventure while prompting deeper consideration of the landscapes that we enjoy, exploit, share, steal, cherish, and wholly subsist on.
