In a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark civil rights bill that aimed to protect voters from their voting rights being denied or limited due to race or color.
We are disappointed by this ruling as it weakens voting protections that racial minorities have relied on for decades and believe that all Americans should have access to the ballot box, regardless of race.
We will continue our work of registering voters of all backgrounds because we believe that our democracy is strongest when the diversity of voters reflects the diversity of our country. This year there will be state elections where YOU can choose who draws the districts for your community.
