Wool - Engineered by Nature 🛠️🌱🐏 When searching for performance-wear design inspiration, it’s rare you need look any further than the natural world that surrounds us. Take wool for example. Wool is a high-performance fibre, a natural alternative to synthetics which have been designed to do the same tasks wool has been taking in its stride for centuries. Wool’s natural benefits that make it an ideal fibre choice for performance-wear include: Insulation & Temperature Regulation: Wool’s natural crimp traps air to retain warmth in cold weather, while its breathability allows air to circulate in warmer conditions, supporting comfort across changing environments. Moisture Management: Wool is hygroscopic, meaning it can absorb up to 35% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet. Its outer epicuticle layer allows water vapour to escape while repelling liquid water, regulating body temperature and reducing dampness. Odour Resistance: Its protein structure naturally resists odour build-up, reducing the need for frequent washing. Wool has been carefully designed by nature to be hard-wearing, protective and adaptive (just ask our wooly friends out on the fells on a blustery day!) and we work hard to retain all of this natural engineering to provide you with high quality, high performance products you can trust.

Choosing the right wool for your product? 🤔 If you’re interested in working with HD Wool®, but unsure of which product might suit your apparel project, we’ve put together a quick guide on our three main styles of wool you can choose from - Nonwoven (Active & Pure) and Loose Fill. Nonwoven: For Smooth and Structured Applications - Best For: Apparel and products requiring quilting and a smooth, uniform finish. - Application: Can be attached as a drop liner or quilted between face and outer fabrics. - Key Benefit: Durable/stable structure, retaining loft and recovers from compression in a layer form, ensuring improved wash care options. - Ideal Use Case: Quilted garments with structured designs. Used by @tombeckbe to insulate The Fowler Jacket and by @finniestonclothing in The Eaglesham Wool Vest Nonwoven is available as Active Wool (75% HD Wool® + 25% Plant Based Biopolymer - to increase longevity for products that are used and washed frequently) and as Pure Wool (100% HD Wool®). Loose Fill: For Flexible and Customisable Designs - Best For: Narrow baffles or irregularly shaped panels in garments or accessories. - Application: Provides excellent packability due to its spherical structure. - Key Benefit: Allows customisation of coverage by adjusting thickness and density based on design needs. - Ideal Use Case: Lightweight, adaptable garments or accessories with unique panel shapes. Loose fill is 100% recovered merino wool that is recovered during our wool yarn production. Used by @isobaamerino in their Merino Wool Jackets If you’re looking to elevate your wool designs this year with wool that is high-performing, traceable and contributing to more responsible farming eco-systems, contact us today to learn more. What if spring cleaning meant doing less? One of wool’s most remarkable features is its ability to stay fresh much longer than other materials. Wool’s self-cleaning property means it resists holding onto odours and dirt and your favourite pieces “self-clean” in between wears - you don’t need to wash as frequently. Meaning: 💧 Less water ⚡ Less energy 👕 Clothes maintain their shape and quality longer Good for you. Better for the planet. Be naturally fresher this spring - choose wool.

Wool’s natural ability to regulate temperature means you keep warm when the morning air is crisp, cool when the afternoon sun hits - without ever overheating. A perfect companion for those countryside walks or a day on the ski slopes. By keeping you at that just-right temperature and keeping you comfortable and dry, using wool means: ✨ Odour-causing bacteria struggle to grow. ✨ Your body has a constant airflow around it. ✨ Freshness and comfort, morning - night. Be naturally fresher this spring - choose wool.

Wool has a naturally slightly acidic pH, meaning it’s harder for bacteria to survive. Wool works with your body and skin, not against it… ✨ Supports your skin’s protective barrier, instead of disrupting it like many synthetics can. ✨ Works in harmony with skin’s natural acidity rather than against it. The result is healthier skin, better hygiene, and long-lasting freshness you can feel every day. Be naturally fresher this spring - choose wool.

The secret to staying fresh? Staying dry. Whether you’re dashing between meetings or enjoying a spring stroll, your wool clothing is working behind the scenes. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without ever feeling damp against your skin. By staying dry on the surface, wool helps stop bacteria from growing in the first place, so odour on your clothes is reduced and freshness lasts longer. Be naturally fresher this spring - choose wool.

Did you know? The secret to a long lasting wardrobe is in the fiber itself. The layered structure of wool makes it hard for bacteria to settle, while lanolin acts as a built-in shield. As this is part of the fibre, it never washes out or wears off.. meaning your favourite knitwear stays fresher for longer, and with less odour!! Be naturally fresher this spring - choose wool.
