I guess debuting this coat is a good enough time for an intro!
I'm Hannah. I live by the bay on Long Island, NY and I wanted to be an artist when I grew up from the moment I could speak. I got my first sewing machine around 13 and made quick work turning old socks into teddy bears and tailoring my wide leg jeans into skinny jeans.
I started quilting in 2023, beginning with @loandbeholdstitchery 's Beginner Quilting Academy and I haven't stopped churning out quilts for myself and all my loved ones since!
I work primarily as an artist assistant getting messy with paint all day and I'm trained as a carpenter for theatre/film/events/retail. I've also worked as a primary school art teacher at various charter schools and summer camps in the area.
Partially as a result of having such physically demanding artistic jobs, I've always found it hard to have a regular personal artistic practice. Until now! Maybe someday I'll have some patterns for sale, a quilting class to teach, and my own fabric collection, but for now, we're focused on PLAY.

Me Made May DAY ONE (and probably the only day I'll remember to do this 🤷♀️)
Found this denim on etsy and immediately knew it's what I wanted to make my #cedarpants by @leila.makes out of! I'm OBSESSED with the fit of these.
Then I had enough fabric leftover to make a vest! @tinystitch.club has an amazing coat pattern (that she happened to make out of the same denim, and it's so cute) so I adapted it into a vest 🥰

I'm moving soon, which means I'm finally getting around to a project that been on my list for a while: a nice travel bag for my sewing machine!
I'm using elements from two different patterns to land on what I want: the #doableduffel by @matantequilting and the Sewing Machine Travel Bag by @sewsweetness
I actually really hate how there's no curves around the outside part of the pattern to tie into the middle.... So, I think I'm gonna cut her up 🤪 #improvquilting #improvquilt #modernquilting #blockstudiescollective
I have no pattern that includes corner pieces like this, so had to solve that. Knowing how to do Y-seams was helpful, but I totally just went for it when it came to cutting these big pieces. And it worked!

Progress shots from my double sized #inprotestquilt by @quiltbynight
I wanted to pay homage to traditional north american folk art quilts, and if I eventually turn this into a full size throw, I'm going to make it a giant log cabin I think, so I love the poster as a red center.
2x scaled up #inprotestquilt hand is done; SO fun to make. Waiting for fabric to get here from @fabricbubb to do the sign! Very eager to get started on that part! Planning to keep growing it into a throw but I have no more ice dye fabric so tbd. Large scale log cabin maybe? @quiltbynight
Choosing fabric for my #inprotestquilt by @quiltbynight
But...I scaled it up x2 🥳 I'm thinking about it like a meditation on current times and a future historical heirloom more than a poster to carry (but that doesn't mean it won't show up at a protest 👀)
I haven't decided on a center message yet -- all I know is it needs to be punchy!!

dreaming of warmer days 🏕️🏕️🏕️
Made these magnetic curtains for @teardrop_thalassa using @alderwoodstudio landscape quilt class last spring. Now maybe a quilt to match? 👀
