Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers past and present and anyone who dons the mantle and takes on the responsibility without the official title. Where would we be without you?
Spotted in the wild! Hatch Show Print on Jeopardy last week! Wowee. Another fun fact about the posters the shop produced for Roy Acuff’s gubernatorial run is that they paid for our iconic neon sign—or at least that’s how we tell it!
Happy National Tourism Day! Have you started planning warm-weather travel? Many of us here in the shop are fond of a classic road trip, and planning international travel (in your mind or in real life) is fun too. But it can be a wonderful thing to be a resident tourist in your own neck of the woods—applying a tourist’s enthusiasm for local happenings.
While we welcome visitors from around the world to Nashville on our tours, in the gift shop, and through the windows of our workshop, it’s a joy to be able to share this shop with our fellow Nashvillians. Stop in the next time you’re downtown or make a plan to get inky with us!
As many of us are fans of the “more is wonderful” approach to covering walls, we were delighted to see one of the shop’s classic prints nestled into this impressive display that would keep us engaged for hours (post by @alexandracharitan ). A wall of inspiration for the home office/bedroom! Tasty!
However you hang prints from our shop, we love seeing them! Share your space with us by tagging us (@hatchshowprint ).
Mom’s Day is on its way! It’s time to celebrate your mom, your best friend’s mom, your partner’s mom, that hard-working mom you run into at the coffee shop, or anyone who has taken on the responsibility of being a mom without the official recognition—and we can help.
Not only do we carry a variety of prints and greeting cards adorned with antique wood type (and hand-carved graphics printed with hand-mixed ink), but we also offer gifts featuring design and artwork created in the shop. Some gifts even carry their own sweet fragrance!
Visit our online shop by following the link in our bio to send your gift on its way today or stop by our gift shop to shop and sniff in person.
Happy Earth Day month!
We keep not-so-pretty posters around until we can recycle them into “accidental art.”
While preparing each layer of a poster’s typeset words and images for its print run, we make sure each piece of type is in the right place and printing well. As we progress through this process, called makeready (short for “making ready” to print), we check the registration with the proof, carefully “bumping up” type that is a tiny bit too low with something as thin as a piece of scotch tape or copy paper.
Each time something is adjusted, the designer-printer runs a print to verify its accuracy. Instead of just tossing out these “almost-but-not-quite-good-enough” prints, we hold onto them and use them a few more times when making ready on other jobs.
Layering miscellaneous type and imagery on top of each other creates beautiful results, and we cannot just throw them away. We chop them up to make postcards, paper chain kits, buttons, and more, to sell in our gift shop. It’s impossible to keep our eyes and hands off these brilliant bits of multicolored paper.
From the press to your hands ✨ Behind the scenes with @hatchshowprint bringing your limited edition @yelyahwilliams Ryman Residency posters to life. See you for night 2️⃣ tonight, Nashville!
Happy Friday! When we saw these colorful cups, we couldn’t say no to the sunny yellow or vintage green. Of course, we added a little more color, Hatch-Show-Print-style. But we’ll warn you: greeting the day with a warm beverage in a diner mug may have you hankering for a stack of flapjacks or a slice of pie to boot!
Available in our gift shop and online shop.
