This time, I became the story.
Akalaye Wetena holds a place in my heart that I’m still finding words for, not just because I sang it, but because I lived it. This was my first time stepping in front of the camera as an actress, and honestly? I didn’t know what to expect from myself.
But some experiences teach you things about yourself that no classroom ever could.
To @barathahettiarachchi — thank you for seeing something in me I hadn’t yet seen in myself. The way you hold a vision and shape it into something so visually alive is nothing short of beautiful. As someone who studied media production and filmmaking, watching you work was its own kind of lesson. Your trust in me meant everything.

Every song has a story. This one started with a simple message.
Back in November 2022, I reached out to Thilina Boralessa, a music composer and producer whose artistic vision had always resonated deeply with mine. There are only a few musicians in Sri Lanka who truly see music the way I do, and he was always one of them.
When he responded with such warmth and openness, something quietly began.
Life moved forward, and I found myself in the UK for my studies. This project stayed with us, not forgotten, just waiting.
Then in February 2025, I came back to Sri Lanka. We finally sat together, talked about everything we had held onto, and decided the time had come. Around the same time, a set of lyrics arrived , written by Dalshika Umayangani. The moment I read them, I felt it. Something I can’t quite explain, but every artist knows that feeling. This was the one.
What makes this project so close to my heart is that it let me come home, musically. I grew up surrounded by Sri Lankan folk music. My mother is a musician and a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts.
Music and tradition were never just things I learned. They were the air I breathed growing up.
For the first time, I found a way to bring those roots into my own voice, authentically, personally, and freely.
That only happens when the right people are beside you.
Thilina Boralessa didn’t just produce this song. He listened. He understood. He saw something in me that I had been trying to express for years, and he helped me find it. Not every producer can do that. Very few can.
