Wrapped a six-month rollout for MobileX just now, got me thinking about the mad week or so we had shooting it all.. and also reminiscing on a $28USD smoothie I was too hungover to drink.
Hop in our time machine and come back to a place where cigarettes were analogue, fluro and v-necks were all the rage, and a random bloke at kick-ons would inevitably claim that Justice made their debut album on GarageBand AKA the Coldplay of music recording software.
Read all about it - live on LWA now - ahead of their December Aus shows.
PS. Maybe next we unpack the “Justice are actually Daft Punk” rumour?

One of the first times I hung out with Rik, we drank some wine and listened to records in his flat in Newtown. He also made a dal - a curry that I had never been a big fan of TBH - that was really tasty.
Earlier this year, when he asked me to pen the album notes for The Melodrones’ record, I didn’t know what to write and was tempted to send in a dal recipe which readers could pair with the album.
But, I chickened out and wrote this gushing kinda bio/review. I really love this record and band.
One time when I got tattooed in London, the Polish tattooist laughed and said that if I ever wanted a *real* tattoo, I should come back and see him again. I think he was trying to be nice, but it was pretty hectic.
I don’t think he would fit in at Melbourne’s Chapel Tattoo. The legendary studio is owned by Andrew Mcleod who is currently tattooing over 280 people to raise funds for In Pieces.
I wrote a short piece for @urbanlistmelb about Andrew and Chapel, exploring how tattooing is an unconventional but effective tool for connection.

“An often misunderstood task in throwing a successful event, especially an inaugural one, is managing hype. Also known as buzz, anticipation and, occasionally, hoo-ha, ‘hype’ is a promise that you make to people about what they’re going to be served at your gig or party or festival.”
“If you overpromise, people are going to walk out deflated. Underpromise, and no one will show up. Get it just right, and it becomes a self-perpetuating beast—punters tell their friends, who tell their friends, and so on. Hell, some of them even write about it for the local paper.”

If you were to list dream jobs, touring the world shooting Kelly Slater surfing would be right up there for many, many people. For Todd Glaser, that’s been his reality for the past 15 years.
We asked Todd what it’s like being in Kelly’s tight circle, how it feels when he captures something special, and how he handles the GOAT being critical of his work.
Hit the link in bio for our chat and an exclusive look at Todd’s mind-blowing book ‘Kelly Slater: A Life In Waves’:
Made @thekidlaroi pick between the Rabbitohs winning the GF or a number one album. Could’ve gone badly…

I interviewed Tom from @fontainesband about their 5-star album Romance, and we ended up mostly chatting about Smashing Pumpkins and movies he likes. Link in my bio 🔗
