Two screenings. One day. Same location. A recap!
Íjè Énū made a memorable return to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka , hosted by the Institute of African Studies and the Senior Staff Club.
It was special for two reasons: first, because this very campus renamed Celestine’s band “The Philosophers National” back in 1972 , a moment that redefined his legacy. And second, because this is my alma mater; the place where so much of my own journey began.
Returning after several years was pure nostalgia, reconnecting with mentors and friends, revisiting Lion FM (where I hosted the morning show for five years), and standing once again before the monument I helped attract to the university in 2012.
To cap it off, I visited “13 Peter Okoye Street, Uwani”, the very home where Celestine Ukwu and his band lived in the early ’70s.
A week well spent. Grateful for every moment.
Special thanks to the IAS and SSC
