Last weekend Delilah cut her hair to donate it to the @officiallittleprincesstrust Thank you to everyone that supported her and donated. She smashed her target and ended up raising ยฃ700, which covers the cost of creating a wig from her hair donation. The link is still open on my bio if anyone else wishes to donate ๐
Iโve tried many times to explain why I love horror movies. When I say that watching them makes me feel better, some people get it and some people donโt. As a big fan of both RAW and TITANE, it was brilliant to hear @julia_ducournau say almost these exact words in her intro to ALPHA this evening. She told us that she was a โchild afraid of everythingโ and that watching horror films made her feel โstrong and braveโ by confronting her most irrational fears. She says that as an adult, and as a filmmaker, she now tries to use the horror genre to confront her rational fears, and to evoke โempathy and understandingโ.
Like her other works, ALPHA is not out-and-out horror, but is very much a layered hybrid with a hell of a lot of meaning. I wonโt say too much, so as not to spoil, but ALPHA confirms to me that surely Julia Ducournau is one of the most exciting artist/filmmakers of the moment. I went in completely blind to this one, other than knowing that it got a one-star Guardian review, which really just made me want to see it even more. If you like RAW and TITANE, go see this! If you havenโt seen them, and you have the stomach, then Iโd highly recommend all three.
