“Wonderfully entrancing.”
Impressed by the “imaginative programming”, Opera Journal reviews our Ghost Trance Music concert at @sonorities Festival, expressing admiration for the musicianship of the Hard Rain players and the unique creativity of the works in this concert of improvisational and graphic-score pieces.

As Ensemble-in-residence at QUB it was a privilege for Hard Rain to present not one but two concerts in @sonorities Festival this year! We brought the music of Anthony Braxton to life thanks to the input of guest musicians @superdakiz , @1977mattwright , @alexhawkins1616 and @brian_irvine_ in @sarc_qub . We also continued the improvisatory themes with a new work by @sarahkwattsbassclarinet that transported the audience to an old cooling tower as well as new graphic artwork by @ioanapetcucolan . And, two days prior we had Daniel Browell’s reflective solo concert exploring music for late night, especially the work of Morton Feldman where visual artist @helena_hamilton created new artwork live on stage to complement the performance.
Two amazing concerts by all involved! Massive thanks to everyone who came as well as Sonorities for having us!
“The group traversed through an impressive range of textures with clearly well-planned transitions between reflective and more anarchic soundscapes.”
Adrian Smith (for @journalofmusic ) includes our Ghost Trance Music concert of improvisational and graphic-score pieces in his review of @newmusicdublin . Check out the full review as he writes about this concert and 3 others from Thursday and Friday of the Festival (link in bio).
We had a brilliant time at @newmusicdublin last week catching up with all the amazing contemporary musicians from around the island as well as presenting a concert of our own which centred around Anthony Braxton’s Ghost Trance Music. It also included graphic scores by @sarahkwattsbassclarinet and @ioanapetcucolan , showcasing the breadth of improvisatory talent within the group!
Many thanks to our guest musicians @superdakiz , @1977mattwright , @alexhawkins1616 and @brian_irvine_ for sharing Braxton’s music with us as well as everyone who came along to see us and @cmcireland for hosting networking events at NMD.
