I'm glad I started it and finished many hours later. I love it a lot.
It was charming and warmed my heart. I love that it's written in first person.
There's also this cleverness in addressing subjects like grief, depression without watering down or making them heavy.
Her person is so relatable. Maddie/Maame is so much like me. I love her a lot. The introversion, overthinking, the talking to herself always, in her head and out loud, the googling every flying minute... etc etc etc, yeah, Me! Plus I was born on a Thursday too. So yeah, me, Baaba.
I felt a lot. Was vexed. Cried (me and the emotional dey tire me 😌). Then I laughed so hard 'cause chapter 41. Baaba was rewarded. Things fell in place for her in the end. I wanted that so bad for her.
Loved that she's very self-aware, became much more assertive, more discerning. And thrived.
Best part: chapter forty-one, last paragraph. I laughed much much here.
Fave line: "Regardless of how you behave, a lot of things are going to be out of your control because this world was made to test you. Protect your peace in whatever and every way that you can."
9/10 for me.
