Having a baby really got me thinking about how much gore is involved in being a woman. Yet none of the adjectives that originate from our gender - womanly, feminine, girly, ladylike - encompass this. In fact for the most part it's the exact opposite - I can imagine the words manly and masculine sitting comfortably alongside blood, while ladylike femininity should manifest as pristine and fragile like porcelain. This completely sidesteps a huge part of our story, one of the most inescapable and fundamental parts of being a woman.
This piece is a glorious celebration of feminine gore, and the strength and power that women possess to battle through blood! The base is created from baby dresses that were bought by my grandmother and worn by my mother when she was born, which I dyed with avocado seeds and madder. There are wild rose petals that I coated in resin, silk and embroidery, tiny babies, bloody fingers pulling out a bloody tampon string, and a madder dyed and beaded sanitary towel. (Which by the way were invented by men - maybe we need to start thinking of tampons and sanitary towels as manly?)

This collage was created mostly using images that Dillon provided, including childhood photos and sentimental items that featured in the poems. It was a really interesting way to work and I was honoured to be tasked with creating a cover using such significant and personal images, for this deeply moving collection.

What an honour it was to be a part of the Unapologetic exhibition at the Roper Gallery at @bathartistsstudios Spanning both international women's day and mother's day, the exhibition was an incredible and insightful collection of multi disciplinary artworks that showed so many poignant viewpoints in womanhood. Beautifully curated by @ritalazaroart

2025 was a RIDE! The most extreme year in so many ways, birth and death, order and chaos, full of glorious creation as well as catastrophic destruction.
Someone said to me today, well done for making work throughout it all! But making art is my ground zero. It is the light in the tunnel, the peak of the mountain and the clearing in the forest. So I am so grateful to anyone who has ever bought it, because each time I sell some it means I have to make more ☺️

I once had a dream that I was at an underwater parliament. All the whales and dolphins and crabs had gathered in a huge circle to discuss the state of planet earth. I was lurking in the shadows at the edge wondering what they were all saying (they weren't speaking English of course.) I still wonder what thet would say to us if they only could. Or what they whisper about us behind our backs..
