Programmers consider many factors beyond just the film itself — which includes building a different film festival universe every single year. Keep making your films and submitting them. Last month, I did some remote work in the Bay Area. It’s certainly a privilege to get away from your normal environment to get some much needed rest and inspiration - but it’s a necessary one for me and I certainly work hard for it.
It doesn’t take much to switch it up every now and then. Even if you take a walk in the middle of day when “you’re not supposed to” or work from a location you don’t normally work from can change the vibe - inspiring something new. ✨
A dear friend introduced me to gouache paint earlier this year. She reminded me of what it’s like to create something just for the hell of it. No expectations. No project to sell. Just pure, good old-fashioned painting without having to control the outcome. I forget how liberating it feels to just create. The act of creativity is enough sometimes.
