Meet Chestnut 🧡Our Cat of the Week
He's three years old, orange boi, and absolutely convinced it's dinner time. Like right now.
Last winter, Chestnut showed up at a neighbor's door right before a huge snowstorm. He was wounded and freezing. She didn't hesitate and took him in, got him immediate vet care, and nursed him back to health. She searched for his family, but no one ever came forward.
He's FIV positive and that shouldn't deter you. Cats with FIV live long, full, healthy lives. The virus is spread primarily through deep bite wounds, not everyday contact. Chestnut is a lover who has zero interest in fighting anyone. He just wants a sunny chair, a warm lap, and to formally submit his complaints at feeding time.
He may do best as an only cat or with a calm companion and that's something we're happy to talk through when you come meet him.
If you've been thinking about a chill, sweet, deeply good boy who's had a bit of a journey... he's waiting 💗

Crochet & Play with Cats is this Saturday and we could use a few more crocheters 🧶

No experience is needed. Our instructor @crochetedmads brings everything: yarn, pattern, the step-by-step. You'll take home your finished project, the leftover yarn, and a Polaroid from the night. A café drink is included with event visit. Plus 90 minutes in the lounge with the cats, who will assume the yarn is theirs.

the sweet smell of home
I wrote this haiku for Nature’s warm tabby coloring, her imperfect sweetness, and the feeling of a cat still waiting for her window.
Nature has been with us since September, and she is still waiting for her person 💗
She is playful, affectionate, a little sweet, a little sassy, and very serious about sitting on backpacks. If you set one down, congratulations, it belongs to Nature now.
She loves pets. She wants to be near people.
But underneath all that personality - she really is just a cozy girl waiting for a sunny window of her own.

She is vocal. Like, vocal.
Tuppence will meow at you from across the room until you come over, then purr the second you sit down. She’s curious, expressive, sweet, and has big lap energy.
Basically, the kind of cat who decides she’s your cat about thirty seconds in.

Last month I was named a Brilliant Entrepreneur by West Michigan Woman. This is what I said.
Almost ten years ago, I had a biology degree, no money, no business background, and an article about cat cafés in Japan. My friends laughed. I opened anyway, with a Keurig, because I couldn’t afford an espresso bar.
There were years I didn’t think we’d make it. A divorce. A pandemic closure. A long quiet stretch where I stopped talking about the business publicly because I was just trying to survive.
But somewhere in there, over a thousand cats found homes, the Keurig got replaced, and this year is our best year yet.
If you’re a woman with a wild idea and no money and people telling you it won’t work: this one’s for you. Just start.
Thank you to my husband, my family, my team, and every person who has walked through our doors and given a cat a home. You’re the reason I had something to say up there. 🐾
