It is with the heaviest hearts that we share our beloved Poppy has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈❤️ Poppy came to HAP in January 2025 after being found wandering alone as a stray. While we knew very little about his past, it didn’t take long for us to learn the way to his heart…food, food, and more food! At first, Poppy lacked some basic manners and training, but he made up for it with his adorable googly eyes and goofy personality. He loved running through our fields, rolling in the grass, and accidentally spooking himself with his own karate kicks. While his vision was impaired, it didn’t slow him down from loving life. From neck scratches and back rubs to sweet treats and long naps, Poppy enjoyed the simple things in life. During his time with HAP, he had several breaks from the shelter, including radio stations, foster homes, and long car rides. He was truly a joy to be around, just a laid-back, lovable senior. Over the last month, Poppy’s arthritis progressed significantly, leading to a collapse and increasing mobility challenges. Even as his body struggled, Poppy continued to push through with the same eager eyes and happy-go-lucky spirit we all loved so much. Our team remained hopeful as we tried a series of pain medications and injections to keep him comfortable. Despite these efforts, Poppy’s pain and exhaustion remained constant, and eventually, we could see it in his eyes. It was time. He was ready. Before helping Poppy cross the rainbow bridge, we knew there was one final item on his bucket list we could make come true…the strictly forbidden human food. Poppy finally got the feast of his dreams, complete with pizza slices, ice cream, candy bars, and every snack he was never allowed to have. Surrounded by the people who loved him most, Poppy spent his final moments feeling safe, cherished, and deeply adored. We are incredibly grateful to our animal caretakers for the unwavering love and dedication they poured into Poppy throughout the last year. UNICORN FOSTERING🦄✨🐾 As summer approaches, many families are searching for the perfect adventure buddy…a social, outgoing pup ready for beach days, hikes, and backyard barbecues. While those dogs quickly catch everyone’s eye, and we’re happy to see them head home, some of our quieter dogs are overlooked during this time. Whether they’re coming to us from an abusive past, loss of an owner, or as a stray, sometimes these dogs take more time to open up. These pups may prefer a slower pace, a calmer home, or a little extra patience while they learn to feel safe again, or maybe for the first time ever. Some may do best as the only pet, while others would thrive in a home without small children or lots of visitors. They may not be everyone’s perfect match, but they are perfect to someone! 🦄When fosters open their hearts and homes to dogs who need a calm, consistent environment to decompress and rebuild confidence, we call them Unicorn Fosters. These fosters are rare, but incredibly special to us. Finding homes without children, other pets, or lots of activity can be challenging, which makes these fosters especially valuable for dogs who need a little extra peace, patience, and understanding. Summer is just around the corner, making it the perfect time to welcome a furry friend home! With the kids out of school, longer sunny days, and vacation time saved for beach trips and adventures, warmer weather gives families more flexibility to help a new pet settle in, build routines, and enjoy plenty of time together. From backyard playtime to sunset walks, summer is better with a best friend by your side! To kick off summer, we are hosting an Adoptapooloza adoption event in collaboration with Faithful Friends at Cabela’s in the Christiana Mall from 11AM–3PM! Stop by to meet adorable adoptable pets from both shelters, learn more about adoption, and hopefully find your perfect summer sidekick! 💦We’re making a splash with this one, as ALL ADOPTIONS WILL BE $50! Every pup attending the event will be fully vetted prior to adoption, including vaccinations, dewormer, preventatives, heartworm testing, and spay/neuter surgery. KITTY CATS🐾🍼 Earlier this month, our friends at Concord Pet hosted a donation drive in support of our kittens and mommas during the busiest time of the year, Kitten Season! Customers shopped directly from our Kitten Season wishlist, helping provide moms, newborns, and orphaned kittens with the essential supplies they need to grow, heal, and thrive. From formula and syringes to toys, blankets, litterboxes, and more, every single donation makes a lifesaving difference for our tiniest, most vulnerable residents. Right now, we are caring for more than 100 kittens both on-site and in foster homes, with dozens more arriving through our doors each week. In addition to donations for our feline friends, Concord Pet also supplied more than 30 bags of dog food for our free pet food pantry, helping to keep our community pets fed and well cared for! We'd like to thank the team at Concord Pet in Chestnut Run and their compassionate customers. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we’re able to provide these babies with everything they need while they prepare for loving homes of their own!

RONITAS HALLELUJAH❤️✨ Well, it's about time you get to know me! I’m a man who enjoys the finer things in life… snacks, naps, attention, and of course, being admired. Around here, I’m basically management. Without me, who would supervise the staff, greet the visitors, and provide this level of handsome? Exactly. A lot of people come to meet me at HAP, but somehow I’m still here. Personally, I think it’s because I leave people starstruck. They meet me and think, “Wow… this cat is iconic.” Then they panic and adopt somebody else because deep down, they know no other cat could possibly compete with me. I’m the perfect balance of party animal and professional lounger. Some days I’m zooming around looking for entertainment, other days I’m busy snoozing in one of my many royal beds. I love a good wand toy, but my favorite thing is a cat tree! Looking down over the world, taking in a view you know. Sure, I may occasionally hand out a dramatic love bite or defend my cat tree like the king I am, but that’s called personality. You don’t become this charming without a little flair! Anyway, if you want to welcome me into your kingdom, I'm available for adoption at HAP Stanton! Stop on in the shelter to meet me, and prepare to be amazed! 👑❤️

What an incredible journey it has been! From October 2025 through March 2026, Staybridge Suites Rehoboth Beach proudly hosted “Bingo for the Dogs” alongside our amazing co-host, Humane Animal Partners (HAP). These fun-filled bingo evenings brought our community together for a great cause, supporting animals in need. Guests enjoyed exciting bingo games, prizes, giveaways and unforgettable moments with fellow animal lovers. We’re grateful to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this event such a success. STANTON SURGERY CLIENTS‼️ Due to a Delmarva Power outage, our Stanton/Christiana location is currently without power and our phones are temporarily down. The Delmarva team is actively working on the issue, with restoration expected around 11AM. ⭐️Once power is restored, we will still be able to care for our scheduled surgery patients today! We also understand many in the community may be impacted by this outage and the heavy traffic in the area.
