Happy love day to all you love birds, but a special shout out to all the single birds out there who are strong and beautiful on their own π.
(P.S. Happily taking divorce/breakup portrait commissions π)
π I'm excited to share that I will be teaching a fun cyanotypes and embroidery workshop in Luang Prabang, Laos this October. π
I've been fortunate to teach workshops with @acecampstravel over the past few years, and I love that each trip is so unique and special. The trips gather the most genuinely kind people who are interested in creativity and culture.
This highlights reel celebrates our previous trip in Evora, Portugal, and I feel Luang Prabang is going to be even more special. I spent two weeks exploring Laos last year and fell in love with everything there - the artisan crafts, people and the landscapes. I think the food might be my second favorite Asian cuisine behind Vietnamese food π.
The trip details should be announced sometime this week, so if you are interested in attending, please be sure to sign up for @acecampstravel newsletter for first access. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to DM me π
And just like that, my solo exhibition @artonmaindallas is wrapping up this weekend! π§΅
Come pop by the gallery today through Saturday to see the works in person (they're worth it! I promise!). We will have a closing reception on Saturday from 4:30p-6:30p if you would like to have a little libation and a chat with me!
Special thanks to those of you who have already visited the show. I feel these analog experiences get more meaningful with each passing day, and I really appreciate all of you who choose to spend a little bit of your lives with me. Here's to continuing the climb up this crazy life together π
π Hoping to spread a little love in the world at this dark time through the Love Collection - available in the ol' trusty link we know and adoreπ.
I stitched hearts onto butterflies in this batch to represent the beautiful transformation of love itself as it evolves and grows. There are also love notes and postcard books. This will be the last batch of works released through the shop this year as I'll be focused on making work for upcoming exhibitions for the rest of the year. π
10% of sales from the Love Collection will be donated - split between the Immigration Rapid Response Fund organized by the Women's Foundation of MN and the National Immigration Law Center which helps defend and advance the rights and opportunities of low-income immigrants in the U.S. There are two prints available in the collection of which I will be donating 50% of proceeds to the two organizations.
Thanks for hanging in there. Tomorrow we protest πͺ
This is how I feel most of us are watching the active destruction of our democratic ideals and the blatant spreading of false information and lies by the current administration.
Please support Minnesota (see @standwithminnesota for ways you can help).
Please show up at primaries (Texas voters must register by February 2nd to vote in the March 3rd primaries!).
Please look out for each other. Community and love is what makes everything possible.
We can make a change. We must.
My cup is fully overflowing like these magical tea piles. My family surprised me at the opening reception @artonmaindallas , and it was the first time my parents have ever truly seen my work in person since I began this entire art journey six years ago.
As a child of immigrants, I was *strongly* encouraged to pursue more "practical" career paths, which I dutifully did for two decades before following my heart. I'm honestly still not sure what they really think of all of it, but it was really nice to see them view the show. This piece was my mom's overall favorite - a vintage postcard I found while in Japan last year that illustrated the bounty of joy I felt while visiting there.
Thank you to my family and so many old and new friends who came out to celebrate with me on Saturday. It was really such an incredible way to start the new year and share my art journey.
The show is up until February 7th, so please stop by @artonmaindallas to peep the works in person or check my bio to view/collect the works online.
Have a great week! π
Six months ago, I received a wonderful opportunity @artonmaindallas , an artist residency sponsored by the generous and kind @dannyb_gps .
The studio space allowed me to explore new techniques and ideas, such as thread weaving, after long been inspired by artisans I've met across Southeast Asia. The show features a few of my early works with this technique, and I'm excited to explore it further this year.
Thank you, Andrea and Danny, for the perfect space to grow and explore. I am so happy to be celebrating the residency with this solo exhibition at the gallery. See y'all tonight! π»ππππ»πͺ
One more beautiful sleep until the opening reception of Second Nature @artonmaindallas ! I hope you can join us for some π·π§πΌοΈππ» tomorrow from 5:30p-8:30p.
Coincidentally they are also celebrating Dolly Day in Dallas this weekend (in honor of her greatness's birthday on Monday), so there's a lot to celebrate π
If you're unable to visit the show in person, the works will also be available online. Please feel free to contact @artonmaindallas with any inquiries or DM for the link! Have a great weekend! π
I visited Salzburg a couple of months ago and went on the ultra-touristy Sound of Music bus tour that stopped at all the iconic spots from the movie. Between stops, we sang songs from the film together, and while the whole thing was very cheesy, I felt so nostalgic. I must've watched this film at least a dozen times during childhood. π«ΆJulie Andrews π«Ά
Anyway, I only share this because I thought about choosing "Climb every mountain" as the song for this post, but let's be real about how "The lonely goatherd" is way more my vibe. Last pic is for those of you curious what this bus tour looks like π
"Second Nature" opens officially tomorrow at Art on Main where you can see this piece in its full neon frame glory. π
I watched EJAE's acceptance speech this morning (sorry, spoiler alert for those of you who were planning to watch it later π), and loved hearing about her 10-year resilience to reach this moment and that "rejection is redirection." I see us all traversing this world on our own paths, usually never linear by any means, but ultimately with the hope that we will get to where we need to be in the end. Here's to taking that winding walk in this wild world together π
" a winter walk"
on view @artonmaindallas
opening reception 1.17.26 from 5:30-830p
When I visited Yosemite for the first time years ago, I learned about how controlled forest burns help rejuvenate forests - clearing dead fuel, recycling nutrients, promoting new growth. I'm hopeful that the world being on fire might mean the same thing as more of us are moved to rise for necessary change.
