Hello everyone, for some reason this feels a bit edgy… but perhaps there is some divine lila in this, as ultimately I guess this is a loving call to action to embrace vulnerability and to express our inner loving nature… Since falling in love with Kirtan and the practice of devotion about 11 years ago, it has mostly manifested as a ‘in real life’ / ‘in person’ type experience. And try as I might, or as wildly as I might imagine to bring it through a digital lense, it always seemed to want to be in person, on the floor, a rug and in the moment… Though recently I have felt something shifting, something opening, and finally a genuine initiation into the digital realms. From beginning my play with the loopers and synthesizers (and now @siliconbabas 🪇😎), to finally releasing some tracks on Spotify, and now and kind and sincere invitation from @yoursoulsensei to share some practices on their platform. To be honest I feel like I’m so unqualified to share any thing of real or true substance when I reflect on the great masters and cultures of this planet… and there is something shaking and stirring in me, and also a deeper calling back to sadhana, to stewarding and to creating spaces for devotion and healing. As such I’m happy to share the news that I will be offering my first online class / workshop/ ceremony / portal with soul sensei on Friday 24th in the evening 9.30pm India Time. And also in the spirit of heeding the call to gather in sadhana, learning, opening and devotion… This Sunday (in person) at @alchemyyogaubud , myself and @purnama.world will be opening space for ‘EnChanted for a Day’ a day long devotional immersion featuring Balinese and Bhakti culture. Taking place from 1pm till 8pm Bali Time. Sometimes I’ve imagined Festivals, Gatherings, Melas and Communities like a big sunflower. Growing up from the ground, showing up, shining bright and sharing it’s radiant beauty with the whole garden. With so much light that the birds and bees even from afar can see it, and perhaps even those who are a bit lost can identify the light, and start to plot a course towards it. Grateful for this @balispiritfest that continues to bloom year after year. And especially as the world turns, and experiences even more influences of fear, division, scarcity… I salute this continued endeavour to foster community, celebration and the joy of existence itself. If we lose this, then we are truly lost. And I’m so grateful to be found each year At Bali Spirit Fest. Digging deep, whilst mining for gold And as a Prince once said “What’s the use of being young if you ain’t gonna get old?” It’s been 11 years or so now that I’ve been stewarding the consciousness of the “The Hanuman Project’ - the original inspiration was a way to share my journey into, an excitement for devotional culture. That in itself a permission slip into letting go of the need for some imagined perfection, and embracing a willingness to for things be witnessed as there are…. Which in turn has expressed itself into a wider invitation for others to sing, dance and chant as they are, perfectly imperfect in their act of offering. And over the years, things have evolved, grown, transformed and yet there remains a core residually spirit, a frequency running through everything. And very occasionally there are moments such as now, a yardstick, a stone cast into the well, and candle in the night. On one hand it feels like the most normal thing in the world to have a genuine and accurate representation of “The Hanuman Project’ online for you all to listen to, and at the same time, ‘doing the obvious’ is not always easy… simple, but not always easy. So this is in honour of all efforts of all the Hanuman Project Family, the hours in kirtan, in the studio, in the airports, answering emails in bed, the WhatsApp threads, the tears, the smiles and the stories we tell and the songs we sing that somehow make everything make sense. Thank you for all your support in the sharing of this song, and everyone who continues to show up in a good way in support of this movement. There has been moments in the past months, where I’ve been truly on the floor, and grateful to fill the gaps with gold and take aim, and pull the bow back once more. To bring folks together in celebration under the sun, to chant the names and celebrate with wild, sweet freedom. Blessed be those who gather us in devotion, and may we celebrate those who bring us together in joy. May this post serve as a reminder of times past and a taste of what’s still to come.
