Mokeb premiered at the Chain Theatre’s one-act festival last month and since then I’ve been floating.
It was my playwriting-acting debut, so of course I began every show with the sinking and acute awareness that I was essentially about to step out in front of hundreds of people and perform the pages of my own journal. Very on-brand, according to my childhood best friend who, upon hearing that I’d written a play about a very personal struggle with my faith, said: “Of course you’d do this, you love attention!”
I can’t describe what it means to me to have been able to put this story, these costumes and this set on stage at @chaintheatrenyc . What it felt like to be able to work with and be directed by @darinehotait , an absolute force, who took the script and creatively ran with it, creating the world of the Mokeb in a black box theatre, and with the most talented, hilarious cast.
For people to take the time, effort and care to give life to your words feels, to me, like the deepest form of love I could ever receive. I feel so indescribably lucky.

MEET HANA 🎭
Hana is a Pakistani-American actor and writer, constantly on the precipice of living off the grid. Giving her pause is her niece, friends, a constant need for warmth, and a genuine love for acting, which would be difficult to do in the wild.
For Hana, encountering resonant art feels electric: “I know what novels and poetry and films have done for me, coming from people who have just been brave enough or felt compelled enough to release their thoughts into the world”. She hopes to bring the same electricity to her writing and acting.
Hana is one of the writer’s for Small Town’s upcoming production, and is currently working on a pilot that she hopes will see the light of day sooner rather than later.
We know we’re glad she hasn’t abandoned us yet for the wilderness (though if you ever get a forest cabin…. We’ll be hitting you up). 🌳
Support Hana’s work as a writer in our upcoming production by donating at the link in our bio!
If you can’t read the second half of that sign it says Actor Training and YES MA’AM, after two years and a summer at the William Esper Studio, I! have! graduated! acting! school!
It’s felt like magic and a homecoming. Different from what I’ve been doing for the last eight years to say the least, but it’s been a long, long time coming. In my head, if you feel compelled to do something, there’s probably something that’s built up in your however-many years of existence that’s compelling you. And it’s probably worth doing.
More love than I can express for the studio, my class, and the teacher III never be able to let go of, @kckarenchamberlain ❤️🔥
Brown/poc/muslim writers, directors, storytellers, I’m so ready to meet you. Let’s do this 😈
Lol
On an eyebrow gel run (b/c these babies don’t hold themselves up) and bumped into a tiny me.
This was the first shoot I was ever on, in March 2019, with L’Oréal. It happened thousands of miles away from here so it’s very cool to see it pop up in places where I’m not expecting it.
Here for South Asian representation in campaigns like these. We love to see it 🇵🇰👊🏽
Manifesting the expectations of the comments section while attempting to continue trucking along as normal during the pandemic IM NOT FINE YOU’RE FINE

My baby & livelihood! And at such a critical time. The office + restaurant shutdowns have thrown me, as well as everyone else working in this space, FOR AN ABSOLUTE LOOP. This week feeding programs are being completely inundated with food. But next week, when all the restaurants and offices are done offloading everything from their kitchens, is when we have to start figuring out what happens when the food stops coming in. There’s still a HUGE need and, to keep the food flowing & the jobs running, we’re looking to partner with the following types of programs: + Soup kitchens that no longer have food coming in or could use extra for take-home meals. + Programs that deliver to home bound people. + Senior programs. + Anywhere else you know of where people might be food insecure or are in need of prepared meals.
