Yesterday, our team had the opportunity to partner with our upstairs neighbors, HandsOn Greater Phoenix, for a fun and meaningful community project. 🤝💙
This project put our artistic skills to the test as we built stuffed animals, designed bags, and named our creations. Each stuffed animal and bag will be donated to children in need, helping provide comfort and encouragement during difficult times. 🧸🎨
A special thank you to our seven volunteers for taking time out of their day to support this initiative.
Thank you to HandsOn Greater Phoenix for creating this opportunity for the team and for the impact they make in our community every single day.

Give it up for Jamahl! 👏 👏 👏
Today, Jamahl completes his AmeriCorps VISTA year of service with the City of Phoenix’s Office of Innovation. Working as an Innovation Associate, Jamahl spent the past year supporting innovation projects that improve city services and foster a better quality of life for Phoenix residents.
Jamahl’s favorite part of his VISTA term was interacting with the local community. Whether at an outreach event for the innovation department, or volunteering during his time off, the investment he made in Phoenix allowed him to grow as an individual. 🌟
Jamahl will continue working for the City of Phoenix as a temporary worker! We thank Jamahl for all his hard work over the past year, and wish him all the best in his new role. 💙

Cherishing days like this! On Tuesday, we joined forces with Home Depot and Hands On Greater Phoenix to build playhouses for the children of Arizona’s first responders. Every moment—from building to pick-up—was filled with teamwork, gratitude, and support for our heroes and their families. Thank you to everyone who made these smiles possible! 💙🏠 #100ClubAZ #FirstResponderFamilies #CommunityStrong#hdfoundation#handsongreaterphoenix
As National Volunteer Week comes to an end, we are recognizing our wonderful office volunteer, Judi! 🌟
Judi is one of those kind-hearted humans you can’t help but instantly adore. She has many hobbies and grandbabies to love on, but she always makes time to support our work at HandsOn! We love having her in the office every Wednesday to help us prepare kitted projects, organize our supply closets, and support with miscellaneous tasks.
Thank you, Judi, for always brightening our Wednesdays with a smile and a colorful outfit! We appreciate all you do to support our team and our mission. 🩵

Next up, we are shining a light on two incredible members of the HandsOn family, Dan and Kim Owens.
Dan and Kim are near and dear to our hearts because they are a real life HandsOn love story! ❤️ They met in 2004 at HandsOn’s Read to Me project at UMOM New Day Centers. Kim shared their story in her own words:
“The program grew so quickly at UMOM that we needed a lot of volunteers—about 100 each week—so we set out to build a “village.” What started as simple email updates turned into dinners after sessions, then salsa nights, concerts, and holiday gatherings—just ways to bring people together.
Before long, there were really only two kinds of volunteers: friends and family… and those who would become both. Serving side by side created a special bond. Dan became one of our regular “core” volunteers, and somewhere along the way, our friendship turned into something more. He proposed at Read to Me in 2006—with flowers colored by the kids—and we were married the following June. We kept coming back, volunteering together each week.
A few years later, our world shifted when we learned our time with our daughter Zoey would be limited. We stepped away from everything—but the same village we helped build showed up for us in ways we’ll never forget.
After Zoey’s passing, we eventually found our way back to volunteering. Today, we serve as a family with our kids. Our annual event, Zoey’s Day, honors her life and celebrates that same village spirit. It’s our way of showing our children—and ourselves—the power of community, and what it means to be part of something bigger than just ourselves.”
HandsOn is honored to help plan Zoey’s Day each year. We sincerely thank Dan and Kim for embodying the spirit of service and instilling the value of volunteerism into the next generation. We appreciate you!🫶🏼
During National Volunteer Week, we are highlighting some of the volunteers who have made a lasting impact on our organization. 🌟
This month, we bid a fond farewell to one of HandsOn’s long standing board members, Adam Fuller. Serving eight years on our board, including three as board chair, Adam made immeasurable contributions to our work and has helped us become a stronger steward of our community.
We couldn’t further our mission without dedicated individuals like Adam. We sincerely thank him for his time, insight, and leadership over the past eight years!

A Phoenix where every woman has what she needs. That’s the vision. This is what building it looks like. 🧡
Thank you to the Arizona Financial and Hands On Great Phoenix volunteers who invested their time in our Glendale campus: garden beds planted, landscaping refreshed, a modular cleaned out, an outdoor café built, a mural painted, and a dining room brought back to life. This is what community action looks like.
Volunteering isn’t just about giving; it’s a path to happiness, connection and a better world. 🌎 Find your passion and create change. 🩵

🚨 AmeriCorps VISTA member, Marlon is gearing up for year two! 🚨
Marlon has completed his first year of service with the City of Phoenix Housing Department. Over the course of his first term, Marlon worked with the ConnectHome team to provide low-cost broadband services to affordable housing communities in Phoenix. He developed trainings on digital safety for youth and older residents, and will continue working on a computer training program for seniors as he heads into year two!
Marlon has a vision of blending his love of art with his work with devices to build a platform for digital artists in one of the City’s housing sites, then supporting them with proficiency training. We are excited to see what Marlon accomplishes as he continues his VISTA journey! Way to go, Marlon! 👏 👏 👏
Please help us congratulate our AmeriCorps VISTA member, Jessica, on completing her term of service!🎉
Jessica spent the last year working with the City of Phoenix Housing Department as an Environmental Programs Assistant. In her role, she helped ensure the sustainability of community garden programs and supported trash and recycling education in target neighborhoods. 👩🏽🌾♻️
Jessica’s favorite part of her VISTA term was instilling new knowledge in others. She said, “Whenever residents indicated that they had learned a new skill or piece of information, it reminded me of the direct impact that can be made, not just on one, but on everyone the resident speaks with about the topic.”
Taking her VISTA experience along with her, Jessica will be continuing to pursue her Ph.D in Sustainability Education. HandsOn is so grateful Jessica committed to a year of service with our program. We know she will do great things in the future! 🌟 #americorpsvista
