【Renovation Project】A Round and Around A residence where bookshelves and benches continuously wrap around the living space. The curved storage does more than hold books — it receives light, plants, and places to stay, giving rhythm to the space. Soft pink curtains trace the windows, allowing changing daylight to cast subtle tones throughout the interior over time. 【Renovation Project】 Nonotaira Engawa A renovation of a 60-year-old single-story house located at the foot of Owakudani in Hakone. By removing the existing ceiling, the original log beams and roof structure were revealed and left exposed, transforming the central living area into an open earthen-floor space. The louver that originally functioned as a ventilation opening above the ceiling was repurposed as a skylight through the renovation. Light from the valley quietly falls between the beams, while the red engawa surrounding the house connects each room and creates a continuous relationship between inside and outside. Rather than framing the forest as a view, the project seeks to open the entire house to the surrounding valley environment. 箱根・大涌谷の麓に立つ、築60年の平屋の改修。 既存の天井を剥がすことで現れた丸太梁と屋根形状をそのまま表し、 中央のリビングを土間空間として再構成しました。 もともと天井裏の通気口だったガラリは、 天井を表しにするに伴ってトップライトへと転用しています。 谷の光が梁のあいだから静かに落ち、 建物を取り囲む赤い縁側が各室をつなぎながら、 内と外が連続する環境をつくります。 森の風景を切り取るのではなく、 住まい全体を谷の環境の中へひらくことを目指しました。 【Director】 @takumatojo 【build】 @code__jp 【photo】 @nakamamej 【design】 @hamsand.studio @yota_hoki #design #architecture #architect #interiordesign #renovation

【Renovation Project】Ring on the Green A one-room living space organized around a kitchen that welcomes like a reception. A dark brown Caesarstone kitchen counter forms the center of gravity of the space, while a lightweight steel frame suspended from the ceiling extends across the living, dining, and workspace areas. A deep green core contains the wet areas and storage, while a pale green perimeter receives planting and everyday living. 【 Renovation Project】 One Nuance A dining table with a gently distorted outline—neither straight nor circular. Within the constraints of a compact living space, the form was shaped to ease the flow of circulation. Depending on its placement and where one sits, distances and relationships shift naturally. The tabletop is made of terrazzo, with a custom metal base. 【Renovation Project】Wonder the Oneroom A renovation that reconfigures an apartment unit as a flexible one-room space. Rather than fixing the bedroom with walls, it is gently defined by two curtains with different levels of transparency. Behind the S-shaped curtain, an L-shaped curtain encloses the bed, creating a soft boundary that filters light and presence. 【 Ninotaira Engawa】 A renovation of a 60-year-old single-story house located at the foot of Owakudani in Hakone. A red engawa was designed as a corridor that wraps around the building, connecting each room while creating a circulation that penetrates between inside and outside. The softly lit interior appears to float within the forest, embraced by the surrounding landscape. 【House in valley 】 A house designed along the slope of a valley. Beyond the low ceiling and the rhythm of repeating beams, the forest opens up widely. At the center of the horizontal window band, a maple tree reaching up from the valley is captured. Sitting on the tatami, as if leaning into the terrain, the greenery outside quietly enters the interior. Rather than placing architecture within the landscape, the project seeks to create a space that becomes part of the valley’s environment. 谷の斜面に沿うように計画した住宅。 低く抑えた天井と反復する梁のリズムの先に、森の風景が大きく開かれます。水平に連なる窓の中央には、谷から大きく張り出す紅葉が捉えられます。 地形に身を預けるように畳に座ると、窓外の緑が室内へと静かに入り込んできます。 建築を風景の中に置くのではなく、谷の環境の一部として空間をつくることを試みました。 【build】 @eikous_kitchen_insta 【design】 @hamsand.studio #design #house #architecture #hamsandstudio

【House in valley】 A residential project situated along the foot of a valley. The site contained several ground levels formed by land development and retaining walls. Taking advantage of this terrain, the interior is organized as a series of skip floors, allowing the changes in level to appear on the exterior as well. The variation of floor levels created by the skip floors, together with the shifting ceiling heights formed by three roofs, generates a diverse and dynamic spatial experience while responding to the existing topography. 【Furniture 】 A round table designed for A Round and Around. Placed within the circulation that moves through the space, it allows people to gather naturally from any direction. Since the positions of the chairs are not predetermined, the table is supported by a cross-shaped central leg, gently curved to harmonize with the surrounding space. At HAMS and, Studio, we design architecture, interiors, and furniture through a continuous design concept, developing each element as part of a unified spatial composition. 「A Round and Around」のために設計した円形テーブル。 空間を回遊する動線の中に置かれることで、どの方向からも自然に集まることのできる家具となります。 椅子の位置を規定しないため、脚部は十字の一本柱とし、緩やかなカーブを与えることで空間と親和する形状としました。 ハムサンドスタジオでは、建築からインテリア、家具までを通貫したデザインコンセプトのもと、空間を構成する対等な要素のひとつとして設計します。 【design】 @hamsand.studio @yota_hoki #design #architecture #architect #interiordesign #renovation

【Renovation Project】Pail Veil A sofa-bed functioning as an engawa was installed along the entire boundary between the balcony and the interior. To create a comfortable place to stay, a canopy-like tarp was designed above it. Facing west, it also serves as a device for shading the strong afternoon sun. Like the shitomido found in traditional Japanese houses, the tarp can be raised and lowered to control ventilation and daylight, allowing the space to respond to changing environmental conditions. バルコニーと室内の境界いっぱいに、縁側となるソファベッドを設えました。居場所をつくるため、上部には天蓋のようなタープを計画しています。 西側に面するため、日射遮蔽の機能も兼ねています。 日本家屋に見られる蔀戸のように、上げ下げによって通風と採光を調整し、環境に応答します。 【build】 @roovice 【design】 @hamsand.studio @yota_hoki #design #architecture #architect #interiordesign #renovation

【Guest House Project】Egawa in Ninotaira A renovation of a 60-year-old single-story house located at the foot of Owakudani in Hakone. When the existing ceiling was removed, large round-log beams spanning 6 meters were revealed. The roof form and beams are expressed, and the living room has been reconfigured as an earthen-floored space, creating an open interior. The red engawa that wraps around the building acts as a corridor connecting each room.
