If you care about microplastics in tea, read this.
Many tea brands claim their tea bags are 'plantbased', 'biodegradable' & 'compostable'. Really, they use PLA (polylactic acid) – a bioplastic made from plants like corn or sugarcane. While it sounds eco-friendly, it's far from ideal. 👉 PLA tea bags don’t biodegrade in your home compost. They need high heat and specific conditions only found in industrial composting facilities – and most of us don’t have access to those. 👉 When PLA ends up in landfills or oceans, it doesn’t break down properly. Instead, it fragments into harmful microplastics, just like regular plastic. 👉 The term 'plastic-free' can’t legally be used for PLA-based products in many places – because PLA is a plastic (even if it’s plant-based).
Our tea bags are made from paper, stitched with organic cotton – 100% home compostable, no plastic, no PLA, and no greenwashing. 🌍✨
