Very pleased to see STAY ALIVE: The Life and Death of Stuart Adamson by @scottrowley go straight in at #4 on the Sunday Times bestseller list today. This book has overcome numerous obstacles and set backs on its way to publication and it’s so satisfying to see a book of this quality succeed despite it all. In MOJO @raginfullon gave it five stars and said: “Stuart Adamson, the post-punk generation’s most gifted guitarist, brilliant songwriter and charismatic performer… here we have the fullest measure of a complex, conflicted man, thanks to the co-operation of Adamson’s family, friends, bandmates and associates, whose candid testimonies the author sensitively shapes into a detailed yet brisk narrative that’s both crushingly melancholy and profoundly uplifting - like the best of Adamson’s music... Fans will relish Rowley’s perceptive analysis of Adamson’s work, yet Stay Alive also tells a fundamentally human story… This superb book rues his absence while celebrating his music’s still audibly beating heart.” Congratulations to Scott, and to @newmodern_books for having the vision to back it.

Proud to represent this brilliant young writer and her important (and terrifying) debut book, which explores the disastrous impact social media is having on young women. Freya India’s GIRLS®: Gen Z and the Commodification of Everything is published in the UK this week by @_swiftpress and by Henry Holt and Company in the US in May.  Jonathan Haidt, the author of THE CODDLING OF THE AMERICAN MIND and THE ANXIOUS GENERATION, says “anyone who cares about girls and young women in their lives should read GIRLS®.” Helen Lewis calls Freya India “one of our sharpest, smartest young writers” and Stella ‘OMalley of the Irish Independent writes: “ I can’t recommend this book enough- if you’re a parent, a teacher or a therapist working with teenage girls, *get this book*.” Freya asks: “Why is Gen Z so miserable? Why is the generation loudest about self-love driving demand for cosmetic surgery? Why is the generation most open about its feelings facing the worst mental health crisis on record? And why does the generation with infinite dating options have the least sex? GIRLS® argues that young women have been transformed from people into products. We are ornaments on display, filtered and Facetuned. We are objects, shopped for on dating apps. We are brands, managed and monetised. We package up our lives and perform them for an audience. We measure our worth by public reviews and ratings. We are unhappy because we are no longer human.  But this is not just a book for girls and young women. It’s for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers: anyone who cares about what happened to my generation and how to protect the next. If you’re a father of girls wondering what Facetune is, a teenager sick of being bombarded with BetterHelp ads, or a young man wondering why so many women have lurched to the left politically, I hope this book will help.”

Delighted to see another Hamilton Agency client picked for the Books of the Year lists - this time @andrewdoyle101 in The New Statesmen for The End of Woke, his book on illiberalism on the political left and right. Selected by Richard Dawkins who says “Doyle writes beautifully, trenchantly, near-irrefutably….the book is superb, its author fluent, humorous, acutely observant and enviably well-read…The chapter on gender wars almost had me rushing out into the street to read choice passages to random strangers. The book’s recurring theme, epitomised by the section on George Orwell, is Doyle’s love affair with liberty, the freedom to act and even think, without being bullied, sacked or arrested for heresy against the modish orthodoxy.”

Great to see three clients on The Times Books of the Year list, including George Owers for The Rage of Party which was picked by Dominic Sandbrook of @theresthistory who called it "by far the most enjoyable history book of the year, written with irrepressible enthusiasm, this romp through British politics from the 1670s to the 1700s is the perfect festive treat...the joy of this book lies, above all, in its atmosphere: claret-guzzling squires and port-swilling financiers, howling mobs and shrieking preachers. I loved it." Congratulations too to Kevin Rowland of @dexysofficial for Bless Me Father and @raginfullon and @manics for 168 Songs of Hatred and Failure.

UK PAPERBACK ARRIVES! Pardon me while I exult over the arrival of this latest avatar of my beloved book about my beloved artists. It is somehow even more luscious in paperback: something I hope people will pop into their bag and take with them on a trip to the Dutch galleries, something I hope will get people as excited to discover these artists as I was and still remain. Huge love to the geniuses who made this possible @penguinukbooks @mariabedford89 @corina.reads @hamiltonagent @thecleggagency Noosha Alai-South
