I’m surprised by how many of you think aging is a bad thing. Think about the alternative and about how much your day would improve if you got off on your own maturity, wisdom, experience, achievement and circle of people who are always happy to see your face. Stop watching the clock and start looking in the mirror at the person who wishes you were prouder of who you are now than who you used to be.
Hey you! Why are you looking in the mirror and making that face? Because you’re getting older? Of course you are.
So you better figure out how to get off on it. @oldster_mag ’s @saribotton and I have figured out how to love it.
Listen to this week’s The Happy Grownup Podcast and you may wind up smiling the next time you steal a look at your reflection.

“My mom predicted I’d be Miss America at birth and has the card to prove it.” - @vanessawilliamsofficial

@vanessawilliamsofficial is such a bitch! Well, not really, but she’s so damn good at playing one. The former Miss America rarely plays nice. From Desperate Housewives, to Ugly Betty and now on the London stage in The Devil Wears @pradawestend , Vanessa Williams always has the best time being a baddie because “I always have the best lines!”
Yay! Today is David’s birthday. Yet, part of me doesn’t like it one bit. Doesn’t mean I’m going to ignore it. Overlooking birthdays is ridiculous. It’s not like denial stops the clock, so you might as well get off on it. Nor is that his looks are changing. A few more lines doesn’t diminish that, in my eyes, the man is eternally handsome. I still stare at him, catch myself, blush, and wonder how I got so lucky. But if he’s getting up there in years, and I’m the older one, then yikes!, so am I.
If you read this column, you know I think aging is a rush - most of the time. After all, I am a Happy Grownup. So, I don’t spend much time pondering not being here. Passing doesn’t scare me. But what I hadn’t thought about ‘till recently is not knowing much time we still have together. One of us being without the other remains unimaginable. And the uncertainty of both is pissing me off.….. link in bio.
At this year’s Oscarcast, I really liked Rose Byrne, Mia Goth and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in their Dior gowns. Except none of those looks ever came down that house’s runway. Each dress was a custom one-off. What’s with the disconnect? Jonathan Anderson got praise for his recent Dior collection, but who’s actually going to wear it? Whenever I think fashion is going off the rails, talking to @danathomasparis helps me get back on track.
