Meet the Team: Halima Lucas, Writer of The Ones We Carry Thanks to your incredible support of our fundraising campaign, we’re thrilled to introduce the writer behind The Ones We Carry — the extraordinary Halima Lucas. An Emmy Award and Humanitas Prize–winning storyteller, Halima brings a voice that is both powerful and essential to this project. From Marvel hits to intimate indie stories, her work spans critically acclaimed series and top film festivals. Her short film Amelia’s Closet won the 2017 ABFF HBO Short Film Award and was a Student Academy Award finalist. She went on to join Ryan Murphy’s Half Initiative and co-create the SXSW-premiering web series East of La Brea, a winner at UrbanWorld Film Festival. Most recently, Halima’s writing on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has earned widespread acclaim for its creativity and heart. Halima is passionate about centering marginalized voices — a mission at the heart of The Ones We Carry.
