The Halifax Queer Ensemble is a community of 2SLGBTQ+ musicians of all skill levels, instruments, and backgrounds. We are passionate about supporting queer composers and artists, sharing skills, and having fun with concert music.
Guided by queer and trans conductors, we strive to create a safe and open environment for queer sound while deconstructing the colonial and heteropatriarchal norms that have shaped traditional musical teaching, value, and performance.

Groundbreaking” featured music by pop divas, including Kate Bush, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, and Tracy Chapman, among others. We enjoyed wonderful musical arrangements by ensemble members, Ed and Evan, and enjoyed several great sing-a-longs lead by our muscial directors, Jessica and Jacob.

We’re excited to announce that we are collaborating with Page 1 Theatre for Unwrapped, a holiday concert on December 6 at 7:00 PM at Bus Stop Theatre.
Unwrapped is an evening of live music in partnership with the Halifax Queer Ensemble, and community celebration featuring local Queer musicians.
The concert will feature some traditional music while also highlighting the diversity of our community. From solos, duets, and the entire cast, there will be a variety of performance throughout the evening.
Page 1 is also organizing a free potluck and craft event during lunch (12:00 PM to 2:00 PM), on the same day. The event is open to everyone in the community. Folks can bring food if they choose, create a craft or leave a message for our tree which will be on display in the evening.
We can’t wait to see everyone on December 6th!
