DON’T BE A PUSSY
One night, when the cine and sound team were eating dinner I mentioned I wanted to be a dictator that has cats as her side bitches. My silly friends supported this idea, thus this film was made!
Thank you to the cast and crew for pulling through on their day off to make this short film happen.
I was high when I wrote the script, wrote a couple lines and passed out so I asked Genki and Kayden to improvise the whole thing, and they killed it. Kayden and I loosely planned how much time we had for each location and shots. It was a 7-8 hour day, and we pulled a camera cart through the muddy town and utilized what we had.
Planning the shotlist was so fun - still one of my favourite things to plan in pre-production, and with all the historical context that Barkerville had to offer, we were full of ideas.
Thank you to Nina for letting us use her equipment for free, she did a phenomenal job as our sound mixer, boom op and 2nd AC.
Nigel our DP, our guiding light and stellar person is always so fun to work with and did a wicked job with all the zooms. We pretty much shot with all natural lighting, very indie, very low-budget except for the equipment that we were able to borrow for free from our awesome DP Mike (who was the DP of the web-series we were working on at Barkerville). Thank you Mike, for always encouraging us to be kids.
Now the star of the show, Bubba - we all fell in love with Bubba at an instant, and I hope that shows in this film that was inspired by him.
Also huge shoutout to Stu who allowed us to film here with an open heart and to Adam who went into town to buy us kitty litter!
Everyone was so supportive of this film, we even had a screening on our last night there and the team sat at a table together and cringed the whole way through. We got a lot of laughs, and surprisingly a lot of people were moved too.
Thanks everyone ❤️
