๐Ÿšจ NEXT SUNDAY (5/10)! IN PERSON in Philadelphia and over Zoom! (RSVP links in bio!) At the Old Pine Community Center and via Zoom, learn from: - Rabbi David Greenstein on gender power dynamics in halacha - Laynie Soloman on halacha as a site of resistane to empire - Zohar Hodkin and Netanel Zellis-Paley on the halachic obligation to fight tyranny ๐ŸŒฎ Dinner from Bar Bombon will be served at the in-person event -- please RSVP on the Eventbrite so we can estimate how much to order! Looking forward to learning with you! โค๏ธ More about the series: ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ Come to our second event in "Jewish Reckoning with Power: A Halachic Left Learning Series" -- with future events planned in DC, Los Angeles, Chicago and NYC. Each event will be livestreamed/recorded in order to allow everyone to watch speakers in other cities. Much of our recent Torah, writing, and teaching has engaged directly with the urgent realities of Israel/Palestine. In this program, we are intentionally stepping back, toward a broader and more abstract question that underlies so many of those conversations: How does Jewish tradition understand, justify, resist, and reckon with power? Each day of learning will feature shiurim from multiple teachers exploring different dimensions of Jewish engagement with power: textual, halachic, historical, and ethical. While the sessions will not all address the same sources or case studies, together they aim to open a shared conversation and provide conceptual tools that can deepen our Torah learning and inform contemporary Jewish moral and political thinking. *** We believe in learning Torah from all. Speaking does not imply agreement with Halachic Left's political positions. Institutional affiliations are for identification purposes only.

Our very own Ami Dube has an op-ed in @jdforward -- link in bio. ๐Ÿ”— "With this veto, the mayor recognized that our community and our city did not need this crackdown on expression. We need the opposite. The United States, and New York in particular, have been a haven for Jewish life and culture for more than a century. Our community will never achieve safety and security by allying ourselves with those who treat civil and constitutional rights as dispensable."

Israelis who refuse the IDF's mandatory draft on the basis of conscientious objection are often arrested and jailed. After they are released, they are subject to ongoing social isolation and discrimination for taking a principled stand against Israel's unjust wars and occupations. We're working with @mesarvot to deliver packages filled with Palestinian-made/grown food items. Show these brave young people that Jews worldwide support their right to follow their conscience AND support Palestinian communities under threat of displacement! Approximately $36 sends a basket of food and treats to a conscientious objector. Donate at the link in our bio!
