Cabin in the Woods, Jenner, CA @tiff_lx and her @syr_arch studio visited our cabin project under construction on the Northern California coast last week (thanks for the photo!) With the roof framing starting to take shape, the view framing and relationship with the redwoods is also beginning to take shape. Design Collaboration w/ @tanitac_visuals

Atop a steep Timber Cove, CA hillside is a rock outcropping that became the site for the Eagles Nest Cabin, where panoramic coastal views of the Pacific are seen from above the treetops below. A long gable roof bends across two structures, in a large entry/ bathroom/ kitchen/ living/ dining space in the front, and a primary bedroom and bathroom at the other end with a private outdoor tub. Between the two sections are a shaded seating area under the roof, and hot tub and outdoor dining decks out back overlooking the ocean. Designed in collaboration with @tanitac_visuals

Atop a steep hillside in Timber Cove, CA is a peaked rock outcropping that became the site for the ‘Eagles Nest Cabin’, where panoramic coastal views of the Pacific are seen over the treetops below. The cabin steps down the hilly site, floating just above the landscape on piers curving along the natural contours. It captures sight lines and allows outdoor areas that maximize views along the whole structure. At the end of the timber framed cabin is a massive window-wall framing the rock peak and a view down the ridge of the outcropping with the ocean beyond. The long gable roof extends across two structures, with in a large entry/ bathroom/ kitchen/ living/ dining space in the front, and a primary bedroom and bathroom at the other end with a private outdoor tub at the end. Between the two structures is a shaded seating area under the long roof, and hot tub and outdoor dining decks out front. Designed in collaboration with: @tanitac_visuals @jayquellllin & Dan

@bowsandarrowsberkeley new Fourth Street shop, where this mass timber bench/table and block is the center display piece. The one and a half ton table was cut and fabricated in the store from solid 18ft. long 6x12 Douglas Fir lumber. Created in collaboration with local Bay Area craftsman Kelly Best. @bowsandarrowsberkeley a thickened wall peels away to form the fitting rooms at the back of the store, and tips further back just under the skylight to wash the space with natural light. Plaster Work: @newertopographics Metal Work: @bomberpalmer Photos: @taiyo_watanabe

The raw materiality and craftsmanship of these elements reflect the tactile honesty and attention to detail found in the clothing and objects throughout the shop. At the back of the store a thickened wall peels away to form the fitting rooms, tilting to gently to allow natural light to wash the space from the skylight above. Photos: @taiyo_watanabe
