Meet Adam & Erica Dunn, owners of @baleinecapecod , @dunnandsonswine , and @pheasantcapecod . They've built careers here. Built businesses here. And they've watched talented, dedicated people walk away from careers in the service industry. Not because they didn't love the Cape. But because the Cape couldn't offer them a place to live. The service industry keeps this community alive. The people in it deserve to call it home. If you work here, you should be able to live here.

The Seasonal Communities designation recognizes that regions like the Cape face distinct housing challenges, and gives these communities the flexibility to pursue tailored solutions. When the legislation is adopted locally, Cape Cod towns gain access to additional tools to: Secure year-round occupancy restrictions Create and administer regional year-round housing trusts Adopt local zoning bylaws that can permit attainable year-round housing on undersized lots That's progress!

Homeownership is a dream for so many. But as much as it might be a goal, single-family homes are simply not be the only kind of housing people need. On Cape Cod, nearly 80% of homes are detached single-family houses. That leaves limited options for older residents looking to downsize, young families starting out, or year-round workers who want something smaller. Expanding housing choices doesn’t replace single-family neighborhoods. It gives more people the chance to stay here through every stage of life.

Let's break it down. Cape Cod's character doesn't come from its buildings. It comes from the people who make it a community - our teachers, public safety professionals, small business owners, and hospitality workers. When the people who work here can't afford to live here, the community changes in ways that we won't be able to reverse. Thoughtfully designed housing, especially near commercial centers, can help preserve our year-round community without losing the quaint Cape feel that we have come to love.

Protecting Cape Cod’s natural resources and creating housing for the people who live and work here are not opposing ideas — they go hand in hand. Housing Assistance CEO Alisa Magnotta and @apcc1968 Executive Director Andrew Gottlieb recently came together to highlight a shared belief: thoughtful, community-centered planning can support both environmental protection and attainable housing. Through partnerships like Grow Smart Cape Cod, organizations across the region are working together to advance smart growth strategies that preserve what makes the Cape special while helping ensure local residents can continue to call it home.

Housing instability is rarely caused by a single challenge. That’s why our work never stops at one solution. Swipe to see the impact we made together across Cape Cod and the Islands in 2025. 532 individuals reached. 137 people sheltered. 4,862 households counseled. And so much more. This is what a comprehensive continuum of care looks like in action. And it’s all made possible by the generosity of our supporters and the trust of the communities we serve. Thank you for being part of it.

A big step forward in Hyannis. Cornerstone Hyannis will bring 50 new homes to a long-vacant site near Main Street, creating attainable homeownership opportunities for middle-income buyers on Cape Cod. We’re proud to be part of what’s next. #AttainableHousing #savethelocals
