Well done to Hackney Labour's youngest councillor, Dan Rea who won in Victoria ward.
He says: 'It still hasn't quite sunk in, 23 years old and a councillor. 🗳️✨
It's been an exhausting few months, but I am incredibly honoured to share that I've been elected to represent Victoria ward on Hackney Council.
A huge thank you to everyone who has placed their trust in me. I'm also deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way.
Now the real work starts. 🌹
It’s taken me a few days to gather my thoughts since losing my seat in #DeBeauvoir. It has been the privilege and honour of my life to serve as a Hackney councillor and as a member of the Cabinet.
I want to thank every resident in De Beauvoir who placed their trust in me and in my colleague @jasziieem . I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported, advised, encouraged and campaigned alongside us over the years. We could not have achieved what we did without you.
Serving this community gave me the opportunity to work with extraordinary people - from Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations to leaders across the voluntary, community and faith sectors, and so many individuals committed to making their neighbourhoods better places to live. I’ve learned so much from all of you, and I will always value those experiences and relationships.
Over the past four years, I’ve worked alongside some of the most principled, dedicated and inspiring people in the Labour Party and across Hackney Council. Local government is never easy - it is demanding, complex and often challenging, but I remain incredibly proud of what Hackney Labour has achieved over the past 25 years in improving lives and standing up for our communities.
While this result is disappointing, public service has always been about more than any one position. I remain committed to Hackney, its communities and the values that first led me into politics and public life.
Finally, I want to wish those elected to serve De Beauvoir and Hackney my very best as they take on the deep responsibility of representing our communities in the years ahead.
Thank you again for the trust, kindness and support so many of you have shown me throughout this journey. A new chapter begins.
Congratulations Cllr Anna Lynch and Cllr Rob Chapman for getting back in as Hackney Labour councillors: 'Very honoured & grateful for the trust Homerton residents have given to us. We are already working hard to hold the new administration to account. Commiserations to our colleague Guy Nicholson, who has done so much to improve Hackney and the lives of residents in the last 28 years. We are proud of the legacy he has delivered and we will continue to do him proud.'🌹

George Gooch & Owen Ramsay.
'It has been a privilege work alongside our communities and l am humbled to have been the first Black Deputy Mayor of Hackney.'
⚠️Today, renters across the country are receiving the biggest uplift in rights in a decade.
🏡And in Hackney, this affects over 80,000 people!
🌹Standing up for renters, leading the way.
🌹Leading the way for Hackney.
From top schools to greener spaces, affordable homes to fairer bills - we’re building a borough that works for everyone.
Vote Labour on 7 May.
🤔What is the Renters’ Rights Act?
🗓️On 1 May, Labour’s Renters’ Rights Act will come in to effect - offering a comprehensive reform of legislation for landlords and tenants.
🏘️This will provide renters with protection from no-fault evictions, in year rent hikes, and raise property standards; as well as offer more flexibility on owning pets and living arrangements.
🏡And in Hackney, a selective landlord licensing scheme is being introduced, to ensure higher renting standards.
🌹Hackney Labour is standing up for renters, and leading the way for fairer, safer and more secure tenancies.
